Eh, it' okay...
I just sent in a letter to the editor, supporting Bush's latest reported
statement that students should be exposed to alternative ideas.
Stipulaing, naturally, that putting it in that way placed ID firmly in
the area of philosophy, and mentioning that the philosophy of ID is
directly opposed to the philosophy of science.
You gotta keep on your toes with these idiots... can't let them out of
your sight for a second.

From all of the letters to the editor and op-ed pieces that I have seen
so far, the the reaction to Bush's remarks is overwhelmingly negative.
I don't know if you caught 'Newshour' on PBS tonight (Fri.) but the had
a segment on teaching evolution. The guests were Michael Behe and a
physicist, Lawrence Krauss, with whom I confess that I am not too
familiar.
Behe sounded rather foolish. His whole argument seemed to be: "Ooooh!
Life is so complex! I don't understand it! Therefore there had to be a
designer." He kept on obsessing over something called 'molecular
machines'.
Krauss on the other hand did a credible job in defending science, IMHO.
The transcript is at:

Behe has always sounded pretty foolish. That's what you get when you
base your world view on appeals to ignorance. I bet he's one of the most
knowledgable fools around. Poor dope.

I am a bit surprised with Behe. He is a degreed biochemist and has
published papers in peer reviewed journals. However, they were on
protein chemistry and had noting to do with evolution or ID. I wonder
how much money he made off his book and from his speaking engagements.
Could he be in it just for the money? I wonder if he believes in that
nonsense himself.

I have noticed that nearly all "ID" proponents are keen on assuring
their fellow Christians that their authority as scientists means they
can provide scientific proof of God. You see these wack jobs all the
time on GAWD! channels, giving their "personal testimonies" and spouting
scientific jargon.
And you may rest assured that there's a great deal of money to be had
from this stuff. Pure faith isn't enough for Christians any more. The
bleaters of this day are realizing that faith doesn't get people as
excited as science. That's why Christ-soaked science is selling so well.
Behe's just trading his scientific credentials in for some noteriety. He
has no clue that spouting ID is the antithesis of science. He'd do
himself a big favor if he would read a few books on philosophy and logic.

scientific jargon.
Personal anecdotes and opinions don't count in science. By spouting
scientific sounding gibberish they may impress some uniformed lay people
though. Unfortunately there are still a lot of people out there who
believe that if a guy in a white coat says it on TV, it must be true.
And you may rest assured that there's a great deal of money to be had
from this stuff. Pure faith isn't enough for Christians any more. The
bleaters of this day are realizing that faith doesn't get people as
excited as science. That's why Christ-soaked science is selling so well.
First the xters fleece their sheep, then they use the proceeds to hire
'experts' to bolster their lies. They are no different than large
corporations get in trouble with the EPA, OSHA, FDA, etc., they hire
'expert witnesses' to defend their case, whether they have valid data or
not. Sadly there are some with science degrees who will prostitute
themselves for a few bucks.
Behe's just trading his scientific credentials in for some noteriety. He
has no clue that spouting ID is the antithesis of science. He'd do
himself a big favor if he would read a few books on philosophy and logic.
Scientists like Behe do not enjoy a good reputation with their
colleagues. Those who sell out are usually held up to scorn. Behe and
the other pro ID 'scientists' are being used by the anti evolution crowd
to give a veneer of science to their belief system and to try to
convince the ignorant that large numbers of scientists also support them.
I've been in science for almost forty years now. Most of it has been in
biotech or related life sciences. Believe me, there is no controversy in
science today as to whether or nor evolution occurred. Those who say
otherwise are either ignorant of what is going on in science today, or
lying.
I think that all of these creationist/ID types should crack a few
philosophy or logic books, but most of all they should go back and take
Biology 101 in a good secular school again.
