By that logic Earl, I wonder if you think we shouldn't open the hoods
of our cars and trucks while the engine's running, because the engine
might fly apart and kill us, due to a manufacturing defect.. It might
actually do that, but it's a one in a billion chance, not whatever the
rate the TF30 blew up, I think I read it was 20X as bad as the F15
engine of the same era. Pitiful..

Funny thing I saw at work; on the packaging for a replacement pulley for
whatever car, there's a warning in bold letters:
WARNING!
DO NOT attempt to replace pully on a running engine!

Kind of like the warning on some radio once that said, "Warning! Do not
open this panel and touch wires with fingers while plugged into outlet!"
There was cartoon of a guy opening the radio up and getting zapped. The
way it was drawn was pretty funny, he had smoke coming out his ears and
eyes.
It doesn't surprise me really. Lawsuits that should have never gotten to
court got a lot of cash instead, and even if they were tossed
eventually, the lawyers got rich off them, so a sticker is cheaper.

Whoa. I'd call THAT one a bit of a design flaw.

Sure they do, but the TF30 was so bad it killed a lot of people. Why do

when they dumped the TF30, virtually overnight the death rate plummeted

I worked on cars for a living back in 79-81 and I'll never forget a baby
blue Pinto up on the lift. I was doing brakes on it, and I look up from
below and there are the pointed (??!!) bolts about an inch, maybe less
from the tank. One decent hit, and there were 4 holes in the tank!
We all looked at it and shook our heads and then showed it to the woman
who owned it. She traded it right after that.

over the years.

It bites those prone to pilot error.

Oh sure, and all the books/people that mentioned the problems with the
TF30 in the F14, they are all lying?

What does the "F" stand for in F111?

Here is a quote from one of a whole bunch of articles mentioning it:
The F-14A was not wildly popular with its aircrews at first. It was a
capable aircraft, but also big, heavy, somewhat underpowered, was
something of a handful on carrier approach, and had a few nasty handling
characteristics. The widely-separated engines meant that if an engine
was lost while in afterburner, the Tomcat would immediately go into an
unrecoverable spin. The P&W TF30 engines proved particularly
troublesome. The worst of the engine problems was a tendency to shed fan
blades, with the blades slicing through the aircraft's fuselage.
Intense effort by P&W led to the development of the more reliable "TF30-
P-414" variant, and a protective steel lining was installed in the
engine duct to protect the aircraft from engine failures, though at the
expense of increased engine weight. By 1979, all F-14As had been
upgraded to the new engine fit and the aircraft's reliability then rose
to more reasonable levels. In 1981, P&W introduced a minor upgrade of
the engine, the "TF30-P-414A".
The TF30 problems gave the engine a terrible reputation, but Pratt &
Whitney could at least plead mitigating circumstances. One of the major
difficulties was that the Tomcat had such excellent high-speed
maneuverability, well beyond that of the previous generation of
fighters. This implied an equally unprecedented level of tweaking
throttle settings during high-thrust flight, and it put an entirely
unexpected level of stress on the engine. The same problem would be
encountered with other contemporary high-performance fighters with other
engines.
And a nice finish:
* The TF30 turbofan was never entirely satisfactory, and in fact it had
only been specified because the Navy was in such a hurry to get the
Tomcat into service. The TF30 had been intended from the outset as a
interim fit until sometime better became available.
Sounds like a dud to me.

She's not even that atractive.

It's damn certain she's not a sweet transvestite from Transsexual =D

She needs to be in a John Waters movie.

Hmmmm, what of hers should be added to the scratch-and-sniff card?

Since she's all sphincter.......

LOL, I played it all night at work! They need a crack so you can rename

My fantasy for this game came about after reading a *spit* mona charen
column where she says that "shame" might work to curb the tide of violence
and smut in games.
I thought, "Y'know, it'd be so damn cool if she was one of the hookers (and
coulter is one) in the game. For that matter, load it with nothing but
right-wing talking heads and have all kinds of fun!"
They need to implement my idea. It'll sell.

I liked all the Doom mods, The Simpsons, Star Trek, Cops, Dirty Harry,
etc. They need one of those things where you can take a pic and make
your character look like anyone, and expand it to all the characters.
I would love to play Jerry Falwell or one of the other POS preacher

Dobson.

I saw a mod to the "Star Wars: Dark Forces II--Jedi Knight" game that let
you play as Bill Clinton, Big Bird, and several dozen others.
I wanted to make my own mod with 4 stormtroopers mapped onto uganauts or
jawas, with "South Park" voices. Kill the orange-colored one and it's "Oh,
my god! They killed Kenny!"
I got bored with the idea once I figured out how much work it'd be--and
since this was about the time I got really interested in 19th Century
seacoast forts, everything else got thrown off the stove completely, not
just put on the back burner.
Still...fighting as Bill Clinton. Heh.
