ELLEN JOHNSON SPEAKS TO NEW ORLEANS SECULAR HUMANIST ASSOCIATION
SUNDAY, JANUARY 9, 2005
Ellen Johnson, President of American Atheists will speak to the New Orleans
Secular Humanist Association on Sunday, January 9, 2005,
This event will take place at the Smith Branch of the New Orleans Public
Library at 6301 Canal Street, New Orleans LA. beginning at 1:30 PM.
Johnson is a frequent guest on national news and public affairs programs
including C-SPAN's prestigious "Washington Journal," MSNBC's "Scarborough
Country," and Fox New Channel's "Hannity & Colmes." She served as
Chairwoman of the Godless Americans March on Washington (GAMOW) Task Force,
which in November, 2002 brought thousands of Atheists, Freethinkers,
Secular Humanists and other nonbelievers to the nation's capital fin an
unprecedented display of unity and mutual cooperation.
Ms. Johnson also serves as Executive Director of the Godless Americans
Political Action Committee (GAMPAC), a national initiative to support and
elect Atheist candidates for public office.
She will speak on "MADALYN MURRAY O'HAIR: Why What She Stood For Matters
Today." Using rare archival video footage, Johnson will explore the legacy
of Madalyn Murray O'Hair, and how her ideas impact current social policy
issues such as the faith-based initiative and First Amendment disputes over
prayer and religion in the public square.
