Object: Enormous Fucking Crucifix
Most of the crucifixes I've seen are tiny little necklaces. But I saw a
woman the other day who was sporting a truly enormous one. It must have
been several pounds and almost a foot tall. It's possible that she was
a nun, though she wasn't in the traditional garb.
I commented to my brother, some distance away, "that crucifix is large
enough to kill Jesus a second time if he ever manages to come back". I
suspect that the cross ***** didn't hear me, but if she had it probably
only would have reinforced her smug and sanctimonious delusions. She's
sticking her religion out in everyone's face and probably hopes to catch
some abuse so she can revel in her martyrdom fantasies. At the same
time, she also lets other xians know that she considers herself at least
a few notches "holier" than they are.
Either way, I'm not sure the cross does her much good. Other than being
a several pound albatross around her neck and the philosophical
equivalent of a dunce cap, I'm not sure why such people feel the need
for jewelry that large. I mean, I guess in primitive cultures they do
wear those enormous earrings, exaggerated head gear, etc. But hopefully
we aren't devolving back into that with the steady drumbeat of religion.
BTW, as a side note, this wasn't just a large crucifix. It appeared to
have a silver finish with rhinestones down the middle. So if they did
crucify baby jesus on it, assuming that god knocks up some other
floozy, then he'd have to ascend all the way back to heaven with shards
of glass sticking in his butt and back. I'd probably rather have the
crown of thorns thing, all things considered, but then again, I don't
expect most xians to bother to think that far ahead.

So it's a big *****, like in The Exorcist?
Remember that scene? "Let Jesus ***** you!"

That was one thing that got me about the passion of christ - all the
merchandising. Im pretty sure that if there were an actual "christian" god,
he'd be against merchandising. Actually he'd probably be against the movie
as well.

I sometimes wear a crucifix when I go to goth clubs, and I love
explaining to people that to me this is not a religious symbol, but an
instrument of torture ;) And if they don't understand what I mean I'm
quite willing to demonstrate, if they'll promise to hold still while
the nails go in...

People don't understand that anything, superstitions included, perpetuates
through symbols. The case we got here in Italy, in the town of Ofena, shows
it all. But differently from other "spiritual totems", church needs those
symbols to subliminally impress the fable of "Jesus" (and his pain) over and
over even in the minds of whom are keen to believe not in christianism. This
is just a paradigm of promotion.

....and that's why it's fun to point out to Christians the S/M
connotations of their obsession with this practically-naked, tortured,
bleeding male body suspended from a cross by nails driven through his
hands and feet. Symbols typically have multiple meanings, and this one
is no exception.

The "partnership" between the romans of Pilate's circle (and of many other
prefects who ruled the Celesiria duringe that timeframe) is undoubtful;
Talmud laments often the corruption of Haifa and his kinsmen. But priests
had to safeguard just their mundane interests against many preachers who has
been presented as "messiahs" from the Maccabeans' times 'til Bar Kokab's
revolt, whom will be joined to form a unique figure called "Jesus"; so they
are partly excused, though aren't to be blamed for a "sacrifice".
Infacts, if you mind, the handwashing of Pilate is nothing but the very
formula of a sacrifier who is near to accomply a sacrifice (s. Deuteronomy),
repeated in the circumstances of the sacrifice of Azazel's scapegoat; the
same as for the "that his blood shall be upon us and our childs". These was
ritual formulas for sacrifice. Definitively, the gospels' "passion" got no
historical ground whatsoever.

None of the repression that came from things like 'The divine right of

Perhaps even the peasants would have been allowed to read and

It would be an interesting 'what if' supposing Constantine had not
decreed Christianity to be the state religion of the empire. Doesn't
necessarily mean things would have turned out any better though. There
would still have been plenty on scam artists around, ready and willing to
fleece the gullible.

Anyway, it probably saved us from
Islam!

Would you rather be eaten by a Wolf or a Lion ? Does it matter ?
You'd still be eaten.

Good point.

You're as all wet as quib.

It's not worn as an instrument of torture and death, but of honor for one

man giving the

greatest thing he can for another man - his life. Thank you Jesus.

And the insults you offer us "honor" him too, I suppose.

I suspect you two try to put your shoes on your ears in the morning.

Well, now we know what Jesus would do: he'd offer lame insults.
Thanks Duke.

That you don't understand the greatest gift of one man for another is your problem to live

So, why you came to bother here, if to be happy with that is just a issue of
yours? Can't you see that if you see that, you seem nothing but the classic
parrot feeling imbued of a "divine mission"?
Those "didascalic" fables are not new at all: we got many of them way before
the greek mythologists, from Heracles and Alkestis to Tammuz and Ishtar. You
are just nasty pawns working for money fleechers grown upon redundant
fraudhood.

Can't answer the question, can you? Do your insults honor Jesus?
Do they?

Does that mean you're going to lay down your life for us? Or do you
consider your obnoxious insults and unwanted prattling "gifts"?

So a great fan of Abe Lincoln could honor him by wearing a Derringer
around his neck? He gave his life for his country. "Thank you Abe"

Actually, many religious nuts think Abe was Satan personified because he
trampled on the Constitution and plunged the nation into Civil War.
