Object: Enough about Christianity...... Can someone Explain SCIENTOLOGY?
Hey everyone,
Does anyone have the 411 on Scientology?
Some of my questions:
Why are so many Hollywood-types converting to it?
Do they Believe in the christian god? (if not, what god? any god?)
What holy scripture do they follow?
Is it true that as you get DEEP into the religion, the secret is it's
all about something to do with ALIENS?
Do they have weekly worship services?
I'd love to discuss this new-fangled religion with everyone... Any
Christians or Mormons care to chime in?

"Does anyone have the 411 on Scientology?"
I have studied Scientology from the outside for a few years, so perhaps
I can answer your questions.
"Why are so many Hollywood-types converting to it?"
Because Hubbard made it a point of doctrine to go after Hollywood
celebrities. They have special celebrity centers to help for that
purpose. Celebrities are treated differently from the rank-and-file
zombies.
"Do they Believe in the christian god? (if not, what god? any god?)"
No, only the eight dynamic (which is supposed to represent God or
infinity). This is not very important to them. They believe that
Christianity is an engram implanted in our thetans billions of years
ago in R6 (this is a bit complicated, so I won't get into it unless you
want to know more).
"What holy scripture do they follow? "
All of Hubbard's writings. (except the avowedly fictional stuff)
"Is it true that as you get DEEP into the religion, the secret is it's
all about something to do with ALIENS?"
Body thetans, yes. But our thetan (soul) is also an alien : all thetans
reincarnate over and over.
"Do they have weekly worship services?"
Yes, for tax-exemption purposes.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have the 411 on Scientology?

I don't; but I did once fill out a 'Scientology' questionnaire in the
street, so I'll have a go...!

Some of my questions:

I'm ready!

Why are so many Hollywood-types converting to it?

My shy suggestions:
(i) 'Hollywood types' mostly know other 'Hollywood types': they catch all
the same diseases from each other.
(ii) 'Hollywood types' are not known for being very bright. Lots of them are
lost without a script.
(iii) 'Hollywood types' are not known for being very psychologically secure.
Lots of them need to 'belong' even more than they need to get laid.
(iv) 'Hollywood types' shine brightly: like the moon, they seem bigger than
they are. And also more numerous. There aren't really 'many' of them
converting.
Does that help...?
:-)

I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A STORY.
ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY?
RIGHT, THEN I'LL BEGIN.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
Once upon a time (75 million years ago to be more precise) there was
an alien galactic ruler named Xenu. Xenu was in charge of all the
planets in this part of the galaxy including our own planet Earth,
except in those days it was called Teegeeack.
Now Xenu had a problem. All of the 76 planets he controlled were
over-populated. Each planet had on average 178 billion people. He
wanted to get rid of all the overpopulation so he had a plan.
Xenu took over complete control with the help of renegades to defeat
the good people and the Loyal Officers. Then, with the help of
psychiatrists he called in billions of people for income tax
inspections where they were instead given injections of alcohol and
glycol mixed to paralyze them. After that, they were loaded into space
planes that looked exactly like DC-8s (except they had rocket motors
instead of jet engines).
These DC-8 space planes then flew to planet Earth where the paralyzed
people were stacked around the bases of volcanoes in their hundreds of
billions. When they had finished stacking them, they lowered H-bombs
into the volcanoes. Xenu then detonated all the H-bombs at the same
time and everyone was killed.
The story doesn't end there though. Since every-one is really a soul
(called a "thetan" in this story) then you have to trick souls into
not coming back again. So while the hundreds of billions of souls were
being blown around by the nuclear winds he had special electronic
traps that caught all the souls in electronic beams (the electronic
beams were sticky like fly-paper).
After he had captured all these souls, he had them packed into boxes
and taken to a few huge cinemas. There all the souls had to spend days
watching special 3D motion pictures that told them what life should be
like and many other confusing things. In this film they were shown
false pictures and told they were God, The Devil and Christ. In this
story, this process is called "implanting".
When the films ended and the souls left the cinema these souls started
to stick together because since they had all seen the same film, they
thought they were all the same people. They clustered in groups of a
few thousand. And because there were only a few living bodies left,
they stayed as clusters and inhabited these bodies.
As for Xenu, the Loyal Officers overthrew him and locked him away in a
mountain on one of the planets. He is kept in by a force-field powered
by an eternal battery and Xenu is still alive today.
That is the end of the story. And so today everyone is full of these
clusters of souls called "body thetans". And if we are to be a free
soul then we have to remove all these "body thetans" and pay lots of
money to do so. And the only reason people believe in God and Christ
was because it was in the film their body thetans saw 75 million years
ago.
So, what did you think of that story?
What? You thought it was a stupid story?
Well so do we. Unfortunately, this stupid story is the core belief in
the religion known as Scientology*. If people knew about this story
then most people would never get involved in it. This story is told to
you when you reach one of their secret levels called OT III. After
that you are supposed to telepathically communicate with these body
thetans to make them go away. You have to pay a lot of money to get to
this level and do this (or you have to work very hard for the
organization on extremely low pay for many years). Most of the
Scientologists that work in their Dianetics* centers and so called
"Churches" of Scientology do not know this story since they are not
allowed to hear it until they reach the secret "upper" levels of
Scientology. It may take them many years before they reach this level
if they ever do. The ones who do know it are forced to keep it a
secret and not tell it to those people who are joining Scientology.
Now you have read this you know their big secret. Don't let us put you
off joining though

Some of my questions:
Why are so many Hollywood-types converting to it?

They make it especially easy for celebrity types and soft-pedal
the weird stuff with them.

Do they Believe in the christian god? (if not, what god? any god?)

They believe in space aliens, but this is not revealed until
someone is deep into their system. You can hang on to whatever
other god you have until they tell you it is interfering with
your further advancement.

What holy scripture do they follow?

The main one available to the public is Dianetics by L. Ron
Hubbard.

Is it true that as you get DEEP into the religion, the secret is it's
all about something to do with ALIENS?

Yes.

Do they have weekly worship services?

No.

I'd love to discuss this new-fangled religion with everyone... Any
Christians or Mormons care to chime in?

Scientology was formed on a bet between L. Ron Hubbard and Robert
Heinlein. Hubbard wrote "Dianetics" and founded Scientology.
Heinlein wrote "Stanger in A Strange Land" and helped start the
counterculture.
Scientology is really silly on the surface, but has grown into a
dangerous cult. The silly part is their belief that we are descended
from aliens, and it reads like a bad pulp SF novel (not surprising,
considering who wrote it.)
The appeal for the Hollyweird is that it offers power, and rather than
changing behavoir you just pay more money.

Yes, when Heinlein, Ellison, and other SF writers were living off the
"pennies a word" that they got paid, good ol' L. Ron was complaining so
much, that he was challenged to "start his own religion" to get people to
send him money.
Nobody thought he would actually follow through with it - but he did anyway.
The Law & Order episode "Mega" (10th season, #223) has an individual by the
name of "Harley Ellison" telling the same anecdote about the religious
scammers in that episode - apparently, someone heard Harlan telling the
story of Scientologies' creation, and decided to write an episode around it.

Well, now. 75 million years ago, literally billions of space aliens were
escorted to Hawaii in DC-10's and brutally murdered by the use of a volcano
and some hydrogen bombs, in order to solve the over-population problem.
(This is particularly impressive given that Hawaii didn't actually exist at
the time.) Ever since then, the lost souls of these space aliens have been
floating around, attaching themselves to people's bodies, and generally
making a nuisance of themselves. If only you could get rid of all the
souls ("body thetans") that are attached to your body, you could be a
super-being. As luck would have it, all you have to do to achieve this is
give *lots* of money to the Church of Scientology, and they'll tell you how

Scientology was a thinly veiled attack, by L. Ron Hubbard, on
psychiatry. He *never* intended to start a religion.

Scientology 101 is pretty simple straightforward
new-agy-sounding stuff that appeals to a lot of people
with a fuzzy, vaguely spiritual viewpoint. Plus there's
a bit of a domino effect, where one celebrity tries
to convert others - hasn't Katy Holmes now taken it
up for instance?

Do they Believe in the christian god? (if not, what god? any god?)

Not the Christian god, no.

What holy scripture do they follow?

It's rather secretive, actually. Scientology tries
*very* hard to keep their real teachings secret from
the public.

Is it true that as you get DEEP into the religion, the secret is it's
all about something to do with ALIENS?

Yes. Bizzare as it may sound, it's really, really true.
The basic story is that people are really "thetans" - a
thetan is rather like a soul or spirit. It's immortal,
constantly being recycled into new bodies as the old
one dies.
In your natural state, you are a godlike being. But
here in the world, your thetan is contaminated but
the various traumas and unpleasantness that it has gone
through in the material world. As a result, you are limited
in your abilities. You can get rid of these contaminants
with the help of an "E meter", which is a real life device
with an honest-to-god meter on it like a voltmeter, that you
buy off the church. (People have opened them up; there's
nothing inside except a bit of circutry to work the meter.)
As you purge more and more contaminants, you start to acquire
godlike powers again and can controle matter, space, energy,
etc. Gaining such abilities is one of the main goals of the
upper level scientologists.
Going through all the levels needed to achieve this is an
expensive business since you have to pay for all sorts of
sessions with the church and such - I don't know exact
figures but it's on the order of hundreds of thousands of
dollars!
As an example of how wacky this can get, here's a quote from
a site I'll reference later concerning the track to godlike
powers :
"According to examples given in Scientology, the content of
'whole track' incidents can include (but is not limited to)
attempted abortions and other fetal traumas, acts of torture
and violence experienced both as victim and as perpetrator,
encounters with the Marcab Confederacy and various Invader
Forces from spacefaring Galactic civilizations, life on earth
as a clam, “implants” of ideas and artificial purposes sometimes
administered with a pain-drug-hypnosis combination, and other
experiences that almost always include pain and/or confusion
and/or unconsciousness."
Yes, that really did say "life on earth as a clam".

I'd love to discuss this new-fangled religion with everyone... Any

That site I mentioned is pretty comprehensive. The church has,
incidentally, waged a pretty bitter war against the site and
made many attempts to get it taken off the net :

It's really an ohmmetter. The way it is used, it measures the
resistivity of skin. A similar device is one of the graphs in a
polygraph (aka "lie detector"). If you happen to have a
multimeter, you can use the ohmmeter function as a crude lie
detector for parlor games and such. The resistance of your skin
goes down when you sweat, and when you set the ohmmeter to the
proper scale, you can use the ohmmeter to guess which card your
friend picked out of a deck by asking such questions as "Was it
a heart?" The device can indicate when a person is lying or when
a subject that makes a person a little nervous, anxious, or
otherwise aroused is mentioned. It is not so reliable as a
polygraph and it is now realized that even a polygraph is not a
reliable lie detector, but for amazing your friends or naive
subjects it works better than "cold reading" techniques used by
"psychics."
Scientology did not invent the ohmmeter of course. It's use as
a crude lie detector was demonstrated on "Watch Mr. Wizard," a
'50s TV show intended to interest children in science.
