Enuff already end the damn Korean war |
Bring our boys home
The leader of Korea asked our dumb ***** president to officially end the
Korean war and Bush gets snotty with him. Great diplomacy, lots of
gravitas! Dignity restored to the presidency at last.
Praise Jesus!!!

This post shows how narrow minded and stupid the left is. The United
Nations and North Korea are the only one who can end the war. The United
Nations called it a police action and over 25 countries sent troops to
Korea.

In Bush's defence (holy cow!), I thought the President of Korea acted very
immaturely. He was definitely putting on a show for the home audience.
And, that is right ... only the UN and NK can end the war. I think the
Korean President was thinking that he could pressure GWB to pressure the UN.

You mean snotty like this?
During a photo opportunity with the two leaders, Bush said that during his
talks with Roh, he had reaffirmed the U.S. position that when North Korean
leader Kim Jong Il dismantles his nuclear program, the United States would
formally end the Korean War.
As cameras clicked, Roh listened to the translation and responded that he
"did not hear President Bush mention the - a declaration to end the Korean
War just now."
Bush said he thought he was being clear, but obliged Roh and restated the
U.S. position.
That wasn't good enough either. "If you could be a little bit clearer in
your message," Roh said.
Bush, looking irritated, replied: "I can't make it any more clear, Mr.
President. We look forward to the day when we can end the Korean War. That
will end - will happen when Kim verifiably gets rid of his weapons programs
and his weapons."

Jayzus Murphy. Some of your assertions make me want to stand up for Bush.
What the staff on both sides - Korea and the U.S. - were doing was to
soften the discomfort felt by all, by saying that there was something lost
in translation. Even a lot of the so-called "liberal media" pundits thought
that what the S. Korean President said/did was out of place.

Our local paper didn't and I live in the Bible belt.
Remember I am only as good as my sources:-)
Actually I was quite surprised that the war had not ended.
Remember the Tom Leher song
Who's Next?
First we got the bomb, and that was good,
'Cause we love peace and motherhood.
Then Russia got the bomb, but that's okay,
'Cause the balance of power's maintained that way.
Who's next?
France got the bomb, but don't you grieve,
'Cause they're on our side (I believe).
China got the bomb, but have no fears,
They can't wipe us out for at least five years.
Who's next?
Then Indonesia claimed that they
Were gonna get one any day.
South Africa wants two, that's right:
One for the black and one for the white.
Who's next?
Egypt's gonna get one too,
Just to use on you know who.
So Israel's getting tense.
Wants one in self defense.
"The Lord's our shepherd," says the psalm,
But just in case, we better get a bomb.
Who's next?
Luxembourg is next to go,
And (who knows?) maybe Monaco.
We'll try to stay serene and calm
When Alabama gets the bomb.
Who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?

While that maybe true, personally I think its a Korean thing. If the
South Korean Prez wants the War over & done, he needs to cut a deal
with the North & tell the UN to *****-off.
However, that would put the whole issue in his lap now wouldn't it?

The South Korean president might live to regret his question. There's no
way the US will return if the UN just calls it over and the US leaves.
Personally, I think the US should have left long, long ago and let nature
take its course.

He cannot do this because the North Koreans refuse to negotiate with

And we refuse to even talk to the North, let alone negotiate. At

about "ending the war" which is only a paperwork exercise anyways.
Roh Moo Hyun was elected on a platform that is very much
Anti-American. After decades of the South Koreans putting up with the
debauchery of American GI's, and the fact that until just fairly

surprised that many Korean's want us out, along with blame us for the

Many Koreans see the unification of Germany and the restoration of the

the peninsula as well. They see the US as the biggest impediment to
that.
Now all that being said from the Korean perspective, it is my
perspective that Bush's policy of "Not Talking" doesn't really get us
anywhere with anybody. However, when I was stationed in Korea
multiple times through the 70's, 80' & 90's, I often got the feeling
that our troops were there to stop the South from invading the North,
not the other way around. Now of course that was under Conservative

I was just traveling through and thought I'd leave a little history. The
real reason for US troops on the DMZ in Korea goes back to the "tripwire
strategy" developed after Secretary of State Acheson left out South Korea
during a briefing on what was US "vital interests" in the world. "Vital
Interests" is State-speak for "this is what we will go to war over." Since
he didn't, Kim-Il-Sung (the elder) convinced Stalin that the US was not
opposed to Korean reunification under the communists. You know the rest of
that story.
US troops, although in numerical minority, are important, as, if they get
run over by the North Koreans, it insures that we will be at war.
The US commander (technically still the UN commander) is important as he is
seen as "an honest broker" by *both* Koreas - one that is not going to
support any arbitrary going to war.
And, yes, it has become fashionable for both South Korean hawks, as well as
communist sympathizers, to bash the US, in hopes that we will have less
influence. The hawks want to be free to "maybe" invade the north, or at
least seem more of a threat to change the North Korean state, and the
commies - well, we all know what they want.
But, probably, the vast majority of South Koreans would, when faced with US
withdrawal, say, "Wait a minute here! This political posturing is one
thing, you're not *really* going to leave are you?" Think of Hyundai, think
of Kia, think of.....

We do negotiate with North Korea. In fact this happens all the time.
However we have made the inclusion of South Korea as a precondition
for any peace negotiations.
Roh Moo Hyun was elected on a platform that is very much

I suggest that you go back and look up what the South Korean reaction
was when we began talking about pulling our troops out of their
country.
In fact the primary reason that South Korea sent troops to Iraq was to
get us to keep out troops in their country.
Many Koreans see the unification of Germany and the restoration of the
Eastern Block Countries to be a signal that it can be accomplished on
the peninsula as well. They see the US as the biggest impediment to
that.
Is this the 'Korean' perspective or the perspective of _some_ Koreans?
