Eternity (Poem) |
"Eternity"

To the garden of my sorrow comes eternal rain.
Through the grass the ice wind blows
stoking hot my ceaseless pain.
O'er the years many have parted.
Crying low, we carry on.
So quickly Life, once it's started...
to Death too soon will it be gone.
Eternity is a heedless thing. It beckons now to me.
Of sleep forever does it sing...
of a world that finally lets me be....
Past driven snows that cap my heart,
the grave alone is purity.
Although I know when all is dark,
I won't hear you calling me.
All too quickly, Fate will bring to us Eternity.
A flickering memory in some hearts...
all that is left of you and me.
Even that will someday die,
and thus is life's cruel ache.
Now is all that you and I
from eternity can ever take.
It feels a cold eternity since you went away.
Alone above you now I stand.
Alone below in Earth you lay.
In dreams at night, do we touch?
My dear, I cannot say.
But sometimes through eyes within my mind,
I still can see you plain as day.

I've seen better in the LiveJournals of angsty teenagers. Here's my
favorite:

Oddly enough, I don't recall asking if anyone thought I was the best
poet in the world. I was just sharing a feeling. That's all. But
thank you for your most constructively worded criticism just the same.
