Evangelical churches accused of illegal political activities

COLUMBUS, Ohio A group of Columbus-area clergy is asking the I-R-S to
investigate two evangelical churches over accusations of illegal
campaigning for an Ohio candidate for governor.
The 31 religious leaders say the churches are improperly supporting
Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell and the I-R-S should determine whether
that violates their tax-exempt status.

The churches are the Reverend Rod Parsley's World Harvest Church in
Columbus and the Reverend Russell Johnson's Fairfield Christian Church in
Lancaster (LAYN'-kuh-stur).

The clergy are from Christian faiths and Judaism. They say they're acting
individually and not on behalf of their congregations because they want to
preserve the separation of church and state.
