Evangelicals madder than a hatter in San Jose |
It seems a bunch of San Jose's Evangelical residents want to recall
the mayor and the city council (or most of it) over a same-sex
marriage flap. The city passed a law giving married same-sex couples
the same benefits given to other married city employees *provided*
that the marriages are determined to be legal by the courts. Mostly
the additional benefits are things like not having to wait until an
"open enrollment" period before coverage starts - things married
couples take for granted. The "Christians" are apparently a rather
hateful and mean spirited lot - in some cases the people being
denied immediate coverage are adopted children.
Not all Christians are pleased with these antics and are getting tired
of these Evangelicals trying to speak for them. But we know which
"Christians" George Bush is supporting, and he probably doesn't
realize how many votes he'll lose over it.

Thanks. Honest and normal Christains are fair-minded and

tend to be very apathetic, and thus they manifest their disdain

I'll tell you how badly it has damaged the US; people in the middle east
now associate Bill Graham's sons comments about Islam to the views of
the whole population of the US. Where do they make this conclusion? when
a president aligns himself, standing shoulder to shoulder with every
anti-Islamic preacher the US has to offer.
For those who are interested in Islam; The Life of Muhammad is a VERY
good book. It talks about the early part of his life and how he received
his revelations (and his his ministry up until his death with a small
passage about those who continued his work). When you read and look into
the origins of Islam, you start to appreciate that it has a close
relationship with Christianity; even the Vatican has opened up dialogue
with Islamic clerics.
The fact is, the large establish churches like the Church of England and
Catholic Church are opening dialogues to all faiths and working
together, which is a far cry to the so-called Christians who bible thump
and call themselves reverends on the basis that they did a lowly liberal
arts degree in theology (which anyone can do standing on their head).

who are cloaking themselves in the mantle of the last vestiges of
respectability that Christianity still possesses (after their cult has
so badly discredited it) -- and actual Christians who have been conned

The latter appear to be Christians who unfortunately were from the
ranks of the ignorant and gullible.
The latter component is outnumbered by more than 100-to-1 by
actual Christians who are NORMAL, FAIR-minded, sensible, and tolerant

very noisOME) RRR cultists are the squeaky wheels that attract all the
media attention.

For those who are interested in Islam; The Life of Muhammad is a VERY
good book. It talks about the early part of his life and how he received

about those who continued his work). When you read and look into
the origins of Islam, you start to appreciate that it has a close relationship
with Christianity; even the Vatican has opened up dialogue with Islamic
clerics.
The fact is, the large establish churches like the Church of England and

Hence the reason I never listen to them. The Religious right fit right
into the same category as Opius Dei. I, on the other hand, listen to the
likes of the Jesuits (part of the Catholic Church), although they still
oppose abortion, they however, have come out in favour of using condoms
to stop the spread of STDs and recognitition of life long partnerships
of same sex couples.
These people are the thinkers of the church, and not the hot head,
simplistic soap box ranters of the far right, and unlike the religious
right, they acknowledge homosexuality as a thing a person is born with,
as a "gift from god".

IIRC, I haven't read fully into their stance on abortion, however, I did
hear that it is along the lines of, "only if the life of the mother is
at risk" when abortion is acceptable. At the end of the day, society
cannot stay static, it evolves forward, those who are conservatives
today become obsolete tomorrow.

yeap, and with each passing election, there are less and less people
voting for the Christian Heritage Party in NZ. People who are pro family
are now voting for United Future New Zealand which consists of many
people from many different faiths; a true representation of what a
pro-family should be about and not this veminous reactionary bullrott
being spreading by Christian Heritage.
There are two things can always be assure of in NZ; you will never get
into parliament based on either; "Christian fundamentalist mandate" or a
"pro defence" mandate.

Well, we tend to have a healthy scepticism of politicians ;) Maybe its
the Scottish that is in us ;) Whilst the Australians are optimistic,
we're looking for that grey cloud.
Had Clinton been in NZ, he would have been voted back in until he made a
mistake. The fact is, the economy was growing, unemployment was low, the
budget was balanced. On that alone, he would have been voted back into
parliament with an outright majority.
Ultimately, if you get the job done, you won't get voted out. National
found the hard way, the failed to fix problems with the health system
and they were quickly kicked out. Helen Clarke has now been Prime
Minister for 3 terms (9 years) and believe me, she keep winning
elections until the day National realise that divisive policies may get
a quick surge in popularity, then months later, the electorate will
realise that the emporor has no clothes.
As for the progressive side; I wouldn't call NZ progressive, just a
country filled with people who quite frankly don't give a toss whether
the prime minister is female, or 30% of the parliament are female, or
females hold the top jobs in NZ. What people want are results, and if a
hamster going around in a little wheel produced the same results, we'd
vote on the hamster.
Its always funny when I hear Australians surprised about females being
in high places in NZ. The fact is, when it boils down to it. Its about
the right person for the right job. If the right person just so happens
to be female, gay or rastafarian, then so be it.
Sorry about that ;) Just had to get a quick rant off my chest ;)

and programmed by the UN-Biblical and hateful dogmas of the cult.
The latter appear to be Christians who unfortunately were from the
ranks of the ignorant and gullible.
The latter component is outnumbered by more than 100-to-1 by
actual Christians who are NORMAL, FAIR-minded, sensible, and tolerant
people. Unfortunately for the fair-minded Christians, the noisy (and
very noisOME) RRR cultists are the squeaky wheels that attract all the
media attention.
Definitely looks like they have their heads on straight. They'll
probably come around to a sensible stance with regard to abortion,
too, one of these days. Since there is NO good argument against
that valuable remedy.
IIRC, I haven't read fully into their stance on abortion, however, I
did hear that it is along the lines of, "only if the life of the mother is
at risk" when abortion is acceptable. At the end of the day, society
cannot stay static, it evolves forward, those who are conservatives
today become obsolete tomorrow.
Indeed. The RRR cultists have BEEN obsolete for several
years now.
Yeah, but they're still running the USA.

What I think stoney means is that we, the ones who are passionate for a
"fair go" are few in numbers. It is up to us to persuade the public that
what we have to offer is a lot better than what the opposition has to
offer them.

In that event, we need to redouble our efforts to get moe
fair-minded people actively involved. THIS can help ---
