Every Modern Medicine Is a Secular, Materialist Denial of God |
In their own moronic way, religious idiots like Mary "the faker" Baker
Eddy and so-called "Christian (pseudo)Scientists" might have had
theological justification after all for rejecting modern medicine. After
all, every modern medicine and medical treatment is an implicit denial of
the efficacy of prayer and faith healing and other spiritual or
witchdoctor juju, as a means of handling disease. With each medicine we
take we are saying that we would rather place our faith in human research
and scientific learning and reasoning than in superstitious crap. Jebus
said that all we needed to do was to pray and that he'd fix us right up.
But millions pray daily and god never does one fucking thing to heal
disease. Thus, even evangelical christians run to the best doctors and
hospitals that they can find, the moment they have an illness. Modern
medicine falsifies religious faith and the efficacy of prayer in a
pragmatic, yet eloquent way that only the most intemperate of fanatics,
like Jehovah's Witless or Evangelical cretinists really want to risk
denying.

"It is fashionable to wax apocalyptic about the
threat to humanity posed by the AIDS virus, 'mad cow'
disease, and many others, but I think a case can be
made that faith is one of the world's great evils,
comparable to the smallpox virus but harder to
eradicate." -- Richard Dawkins

I would love to be in a hospital room with a dying fundy when a doctor
and a preacher walk in and the doctor says "You have to choose one of
us. I can treat you with all of the latest methods of medical science."
The preacher then says "I will pray for you. Now choose!"
Is there any doubt what the choice would be?

Yes, there is. You're forgetting about people who have choosen death
rather than accept a blood transfusion.

In which case the problem is solved.

Hm. Natural selection.

Unfortunately, death of the host doesn't matter too much in memetics,
at least not when the point of the meme is about laying down your life
for your religion.
