It'll be lions in the coliseum next!
I have been to the Rome Colosseum on several occasions, and I should
like to report that the lions and tigers have shrunk somewhat. These
days they are generally the size of domestic cats, and appear to
subsist on a diet of spaghetti provided by little old Italian ladies
who prefer to dress in black but who never-the-less seem to have the
lifting capacity of a medium truck.
It seems to me that this amounts to cruelty to animals and that the
poor, shrunken lions and tigers need to be fed as their evolutionary
heritage demands and in that way bring them back to their full size
and manners.
I mean, look at this
http://www.worldisround.com/articles/9049/photo8.html
and tell me you don't feel sympathy....
More seriously:
When people were "thrown to the lions," in most cases they were bound,
or had the arms broken and teeth knocked out first. Lions and tigers
were after all, valuable. That said, it was problematic to get even a
hungry lion or tiger or panther or whatever to attack even a bound
person and it was not unknown for beastmasters to be executed when
their charges didn't perform as expected (bet your life on the
behaviour of a cat? I ask you....).
And of course, should you go there, you'll find a plaque that notes
the execution of Christians there. And yet omits to mention the vast
majority, who weren't.
Odd, eh?
Oh, and know when the games ended? About 157 years
after Constantine, and then only for economic reasons.
Odder still....

And, unfortunately, that particular subspecies of lion, the
Barbary breed, is gone forever. There are a couple of half-Barbaries
left, but the last ones died in a South African zoo about thirty years
ago.

this article has nothing to do with atheists.
"Michael Marcavage alleges William Bergman, Temple University vice
president of operations, and Carl Bittenbender, managing director of
Campus Safety Services, forcibly detained him and attempted to have him
involuntarily committed in the school hospitals' pysch ward in the fall of
2000. The lawsuit seeks unspecified money damages from the administrators.
"Marcavage had been working to offer a Christian alternative on campus to
the play "Corpus Christi," which portrayed Christ and His disciples as
homosexuals.
"According to a statement from the American Family Association Center for
Law and Policy, which is representing the former student, Bittenbender, in
seeking to commit Marcavage, claimed the student had "inflicted or
attempted to inflict serious bodily harm on another ..." and that
Marcavage had "attempted suicide." He said there was a "reasonable
probability" of suicide unless Marcavage received adequate treatment. The
admitting form, by statute, requires that at least one of these factors be
present before involuntary commitment can be sought, the law center said."

Christians don't attack other Scotsmen. I mean, other Christians.
Therefore, anyone who attacks Christians must be an atheist, QED.

On the other hand, do you really want to feed the xtian to the lion
*before* you take your persecution class? You might get a few good
ideas, and it'd be a shame to miss the chance to put them to good use.
How'd you do in Mocking & Scoffing 101?
So, it's up to you - Wednesday or Friday. The only thing I'm doing
Friday is polishing my rubber chicken.
Friday it is, then. Wednesday is Holy Water Snorkeling.
Uhh.. isn't Friday the field trip to the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq?
There's no way we can lose this one opportunity to tour the prison.
The arrangements are far too advanced to cancel the bookings of the
stealth transporter and the black helicopers stationed in the Middle
East.

It'll be lions in the coliseum next!
Good idea. We know where you live. How's next Tuesday?
I think the Rent-a-Lion shop's closed next Tuesday. The boss is away
on an important business trip, and the trainee's getting her arm sewn
back on.
Try Thursday instead.
Thursday's all wrong for me. I've got Persecution 1101a (Honors), and
that's an all-day class, since the subject matter is so involved. There
are SO MANY things to remember about how we can persecute them!
I think it boils down to having fun without their permission, doesn't
it?
Well, yeah--but "persecution" sounds so much more conspiracy-ish, doesn't
it?
Apparently just being an atheist is one. I did not know that!
Takes all the fun out of it when it's that easy.
Pessimist :)
Wednesday, after 1 p.m.?
I can make it - I've got Black Helicopter Basic Manoeuvering and Crash
Landing at 2:30, but if we've got a really hungry lion and a
particularly scrawny xtian that shouldn't be a problem.
Hope you don't get Simulator #3...unless they've fixed...er, nevermind.
Probably nothing.
Hey. Did you take the "out of order" sign off Simulator #3 again?

Don't touch the "Trippy" switch when that happens unless you really really
like tie-dye.
