Evil Bible Quote of the Day for Aug 15, 2004 from www.EvilBible.com:
God Will Kill Everyone (Zephaniah 1:2-6 NLT)
"I will sweep away everything in all your land," says the LORD. "I will
sweep away both people and animals alike. Even the birds of the air and the
fish in the sea will die. I will reduce the wicked to heaps of rubble,
along with the rest of humanity," says the LORD. "I will crush Judah and
Jerusalem with my fist and destroy every last trace of their Baal worship.
I will put an end to all the idolatrous priests, so that even the memory of
them will disappear. For they go up to their roofs and bow to the sun,
moon, and stars. They claim to follow the LORD, but then they worship
Molech, too. So now I will destroy them! And I will destroy those who used
to worship me but now no longer do. They no longer ask for the LORD's
guidance or seek my blessings." (Zephaniah 1:2-6 NLT)
What kind of person would get their moral guidance from an ancient book of
myths and magic that says it is OK to murder, rape, pillage, and plunder?

What does myths and magic have to do with the Bible? This is God's Justice!
These people claimed to follow God. The same "jealous God" that forbids
"worshipping any other God".
They claimed to be followers of the Almighty, but were also worshipping
false Gods. This is clearly against God's law!
Why shouldn't God destroy them?

Everything.

This is God's Justice!

A lot of Moslems think that 9-11 is God's justice. That doesn't make it
true.

These people claimed to follow God. The same "jealous God" that forbids
"worshipping any other God".

Just like the Moslem terrorists.

God's law also says to kill people who work on the Sabbath. Do you think we
should kill them?

Why shouldn't God destroy them?

God doesn't exist. If he did exist then he shouldn't kill people because it
is immoral.

A lot of Moslems think that 9-11 is God's justice. That doesn't make it

Tell me, in Zephaniah, who carried out this justice. Was it God or Man? I
see no mention of man carrying out God's Justice.

So God is a Moslem terrorist?

Yes. We can't have those Christians telling you about God's love and warning
you about your eternal destination. Can't have those nasty Christians who
love and respect God's laws running around polluting your children's minds

I don't believe he has lost anything. Jesus' death and resurrection brought
about a new covenant between Man and God. God has been extending his mercy
and grace over the Earth since then. He has allowed Man to wallow in his
sin and evil, almost completely unbounded.
The things that happened in the OT, specifically regarding the above
passage, were before that new covenant.
Through Jesus Christ, God gives up much more mercy than we deserve. And
through Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven and we are brought back into
full communion with God (which is how God intended his relationship with us
to be).

Yup, as if he didn't exist at all.

Just because you never met Ghandi, doesn't mean he didn't exist. Just
because you've never met Mohammed doesn't mean he didn't exist. In the same
way, just because God doesn't intervene in the ways of this world doesn't
mean he exists.

Why? The 10 commandments are embodied by Jesus in Mark 12:30-31
(paraphrased) "Love the Lord your God with all your heard, all your soul,
all your mind and all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself".
That statement embodies the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments are here
for those that do not have the Love of Christ. Those of us who have the
Love of Christ don't need those 10 commandments, because the Love of Christ
supercedes those commandments and eclipses them.
BTW, the last stats I heard were that only 1 in 5 Americans wanted that
monument removed.

Through Jesus Christ, God gives up much more mercy than we deserve.

Your statement above ("Through JC....") belittles mankind. The Christian
doctrine itself injects a very poor sense of self-esteem into the believer.
It makes the common church goer subconsciously believe he is unworthy of
understanding the workings of his surroundings, capable only of servitude
to some higher being, or worship thereof.

I would disagree, Christian doctrine says that we fall short of perfection,
certainly, but also that we are imbued with dignity and honor that cannot be
comprised. We are important enough for God to take our sins upon himself.

Check the writings of The Plinys (elder and younger), also Josephus, to
name just a few. I have not read their work, but I know they made no
mention of your gods.

The REAL question is, why are atheists, et al. so "horror show" about

Judeo-Christian theology is not the only religion present in the USA,
besides its antithesis, atheism. The presence of the monuments on
government property suggests government endorsement of Judeo-Christian
theology, which contradicts the First Amendment. Would you object to a
statue of Mohammad in your hometown post office?

Check the writings of The Plinys (elder and younger), also Josephus, to
name just a few. I have not read their work, but I know they made no
mention of your gods.

Pliny the Younger does mention Christ, and Flavius Josephus did act; but
that particular section is commonly considered a forgery. The mighty Tacitus
mentioned Jesus

The REAL question is, why are atheists, et al. so "horror show" about
the presence of the monuments?

Judeo-Christian theology is not the only religion present in the USA,
besides its antithesis, atheism. The presence of the monuments on
government property suggests government endorsement of Judeo-Christian
theology, which contradicts the First Amendment. Would you object to a
statue of Mohammad in your hometown post office?

Muslims do not make statues, but that's beside the point. If I lived in a
predominatly Muslim country, then yes, I would expect to see Koranic
passages and minarets. Even in my own country, I see nothing wrong with
recognizing the ethnic makeup of the community. People seem to want to
'sterilize' public buildings of anything remotely hinting of religion, and
are using the 1st amendment as an excuse, not as a valid reason.

I would disagree, Christian doctrine says that we fall short of
perfection, certainly, but also that we are imbued with dignity and
honor that cannot be comprised. We are important enough for God to take
our sins upon himself.

Your opinion, of course. Other xians have told me otherwise. "Unworthy"
is a common word.

Yes, that's true, a lot of Christians seem to have missed the point.

Pliny the Younger mentioned Christ as a god people sang praise to. Since
he was born around 62 CE, he probably began his writings fifty years
after the "Christ event". Hardly a contemporary then was he, nor was
Tacitus, who wrote in the second century CE. Here's a snippet from
Tacitus.
"Christus, the founder of the name, was put to death by Pontius Pilate,
procurator of Judea in the reign of Tiberius: but the pernicious
superstition, repressed for a time broke out again, not only through
Judea, where the mischief originated, but through the city of Rome also,
where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find
their center and become popular."
Pernicious superstition. Interesting.
Pliny the Elder would have been 10-11 years old at the time of the
purported Christ Miracles. Certainly he would have remembered such a
glorious set of events, and perhaps even mentioned them in his writings a
few decades later, if they actually happened.
There is no doubt the worship of a "Christ" began around this time. But
there is no historical evidence that the miracles this "Christ" performed
around the time frame the worshippers assert they did actually happened.

The REAL question is, why are atheists, et al. so "horror show"
about the presence of the monuments?

Funny how I beg to differ. I consider myself an American. Sometimes
even a Patriot. But I am made to feel ostrasized when I encounter
religious icons on secular grounds... religious icons that support only
one of the many diverse beliefs of the legal citizens of this once great
country.

People seem
to want to 'sterilize' public buildings of anything remotely hinting
of religion, and are using the 1st amendment as an excuse, not as a
valid reason.

You refuse to see the validity because you cannot see your own religion
as merely a belief, akin to the beliefs of your peers. Yours is not the
only belief in this country, as are anyone else's, including my lack of
belief. There are other people in this country, who do not think, act,
or believe as you do. Get used to it.

Why is your version the correct one? Why are the others wrong? I only
ask because this is the main reason I have chosen to trash religion as
*****.

The bible is a myth.

Nope, the Bible exists, unfortunately. But, most of its
contents are myths, along with a bunch of mostly
outdated laws and some poetry that alternates between
murderous and plain, old-fashioned sexy.
