Evil Bible Quote of the Day for July 17, 2004 from www.EvilBible.com:
Virgins and Other Spoils of War (Numbers 31:25-35 NLT)
"And the LORD said to Moses, 'You and Eleazar the priest and the family
leaders of each tribe are to make a list of all the plunder taken in the
battle, including the people and animals. Then divide the plunder into two
parts, and give half to the men who fought the battle and half to the rest
of the people. But first give the LORD his share of the captives, cattle,
donkeys, sheep, and goats that belong to the army. Set apart one out of
every five hundred as the LORD's share. Give this share of their half to
Eleazar the priest as an offering to the LORD. Also take one of every fifty
of the captives, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats in the half that belongs
to the people of Israel. Give this share to the Levites in charge of
maintaining the LORD's Tabernacle.' So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as
the LORD commanded Moses. The plunder remaining from the spoils that the
fighting men had taken totaled 675,000 sheep, 72,000 cattle, 61,000 donkeys,
and 32,000 young girls." (Numbers 31:25-35 NLT)
What kind of person would get their moral guidance from an ancient book of
myths and magic that says it is OK to murder, rape, pillage, and plunder?

Ok, they stole a huge lot of sheep, cattle, and donkeys. The
figures seem very high, however. I'm next to a farm with about 400 head of
cattle, and the space used is around 350 acres, with part of that used for growing
hay. When the wind blows in the right direction, you *know* those cattle are there.
72,000 cattle alone would require an enormous amount of space and resources
that I can't see available to a bunch of semi-nomadic desert tribesmen. 61,000
donkeys? Imagine the amount of food needed and horsehit produced by that
many donkeys! There may have been that many donkeys in Babylon,
but with the roving tribes of Israel? 2/3 of a million sheep? I doubt if there are
that many sheep in the entire state of West Virginia.
But the real question I'd like to ask, what on earth did they do with 32,000
young girls, and why were these girls numbered as a part of a list of livestock?
What did they do with these young girls? Anybody want to venture a guess?
Maybe a Muslim reader could come up with some possible scenarios.

Beats me, Scott has me all confused now about moral guidance. I don't even
know anymore what "moral" means.

In any respect, this was the most honest think you've said.
