Evil Bible Quote of the Day for June 7 (Genocide) |
Evil Bible Quote of the Day for June 7, 2004 from www.EvilBible.com:
Genocide (1 Samuel 15:17-21 NAB)
Samuel then said: "Though little in your own esteem, are you not leader
of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king of Israel and sent you
on a mission, saying, 'Go and put the sinful Amalekites under a ban of
destruction. Fight against them until you have exterminated them.' Why then
have you disobeyed the LORD? You have pounced on the spoil, thus displeasing
the LORD." Saul answered Samuel: "I did indeed obey the LORD and fulfill
the mission on which the LORD sent me. I have brought back Agag, and I have
destroyed Amalek under the ban. But from the spoil the men took sheep and
oxen, the best of what had been banned, to sacrifice to the LORD their God
in Gilgal." (1 Samuel 15:17-21 NAB)
What kind of person would get their moral guidance from an ancient book of
myths and magic that says it is OK to murder, rape, pillage, and plunder?

I really doubt that this is factually correct. I find it impossible to
believe that the Amalekites sent their women, cripples, and very old men
out
as warriors. Do you really believe this? Do you have any evidence that
this is true or did you just make it up? I think you are just another
liar
for Jesus.
Look out! Here comes some logic! If you duck, it might miss you!
-a viscious warrior tribe- They had no cripples or old people...they were
left out in the desert. And yes, women were combatants.
No, they would only have to stop the warriors. Not every adult was a
warrior.
Yes, every adult was a warrior, or at least willing to fight to the death to
avoid being taken prisoner by a hated enemy.
The Bible says this extermination was ordered by the Lord. I would think
that any run of the mill omnipotent omniscient god would be able to think
of
some options that you were too stupid to think of. Or isn't your God that
smart? Perhaps he took the short bus to god-school.
Well, maybe God was thinking along the same lines I am.
This passage says the Israelites took all the pillaged livestock to offer
as
a sacrifice to the Lord. It doesn't take a genius god to figure out that
these could have been used to feed the Amalekite women and children. If
it
was enough to feed the warriors, women, and children before, then it
should
have been plenty after killing off the warriors.
Easy for you to say. You're not in charge of a semi-nomadic desert tribe
trying to eke out a living surrounded by enemies, relying on their God for
guidance. Try it for while, then tell us what alternatives you come up with.
How about leaving the Amalekite women care for the children and old men?
Because the women have been KIA, and there are no old men.
The Amalekite's seemed to be surviving just fine, even after the
Israelites
claimed to have exterminated them nearly a dozen times.
Unlikely that the children could have survived in the desert without the
adults, even if they did, they would be back in the future, looking for
revenge.
OK Adolph.
Europe of 1936 is half a world and 4000 years away from that battle in the
sands of the Holy Land. I am repulsed by killing just as much as you are,
but I think it's important to look at this realistically. It's not useful to
judge those people from our comfortable place here in America in 2004. Put
yourself in their sandals, so to speak.
I don't consider a thing without a brain to be human. You are borderline
at
best.
Duh... good thing I'm borderline, or EvilEd would be salvaging me for spare
parts.
You are pulling facts out of your *****. The Jews were invading there
land. Why? God told them to do it. Pulling facts out of your *****.

You are sick and sickening. Let's just hope you never, ever come back
masquerading as a 'defender' of the unborn child. You have
effectively defended a turkey shoot of thousands of innocent children
and babies because they might come back in the future looking for
revenge. Take you stinking morality somewhere else.

You really need to think about things before your open your mouth. In
this
post you are defending the killing of real live children, and just
yesterday
you said that it was murder to kill an embryo the size of a pin head.
Well, let's put the situation up to your uh.. practical ethics...
The Amalekites were a viscious warrior tribe; every adult was a combatant.
Stopping them would mean the Israelites would have had to kill every
adult.
That leaves the children. Now, the victorious Israelites had several
options...
1. Take them back as slaves? Assimilate them? Israel barely had the
resources for it's own population.
2. Take them back and turn them over to the Red Cross? No such thing,
sorry.
3. Leave them there in the desert to their fate? Dehydration,
starvation...
nasty way to go.
4. Kill them right there? So far, this sounds like the most humane option.
Life was hard in those days, and sometimes short. Not as short as it can
be
these days, Mr. Kill-the-embryos...
H.
So they killed them because it was the most humane option??? ~bzzt!~ No,
sorry. But thanks for playing!
They killed them because if they had let them live, then those kiddies might
grow up learning about how the Big, Bad Israelites killed all their daddies.
Imagine the thirst for vengeance that they'd be choking back until they were
old enough to exact it on their fathers' murderers. So, instead of running
that risk, the Israelites simply kill the babies and then say, "God told us
to do it."
[muttering:] ...most humane option...gimme a break...

Hey, that's why Hitler ordered ALL the Jews to be exterminated - Not just the
adults. He didn't want the Jewish children to grow up and seek revenge for the
murders of their parents. Looks like hughbetcha has the same mindset. Nice! ;p

The Amalekites were a viscious warrior tribe; every adult was a combatant.
Almost every adult of every tribe/city state/nation was back then. They did
not have the means for standing army's. This includes the proto Jews.
Not to mention the Amalekites [ AMALEKITES: one of the peoples mentioned in
the HEBREW BIBLE who were bitter enemies of the ISRAELITES [Irivng Hexham's
Concise Dictionary of Religion]]had already developed the land those proto
Jews wanted.
So, your evidence for this claim about them being rag nasty's of the first
degree is found in which history book again?
Stopping them would mean the Israelites would have had to kill every adult.
So, these people that were already where the Jews wanted to go were the
invaders? Okay, if you say so. But I would like to see evidence for that.
BTW, when did they disappear from the stage of history & where did they
live? You know so much about them that you should have that information as
well, or do you?
That leaves the children. Now, the victorious Israelites had several
options...
So, the invaders now have to decide, are they going to kill off a valuable
source of slave labor for the land they have just conquered.
1. Take them back as slaves? Assimilate them? Israel barely had the
resources for it's own population.
After stealing new land with a developed agricultural base they had no new
resources? How odd.
2. Take them back and turn them over to the Red Cross? No such thing, sorry.
True, it took a person of decency to start that.
3. Leave them there in the desert to their fate? Dehydration, starvation...
nasty way to go.
But not unlike the proto Jews sense of humor.
4. Kill them right there? So far, this sounds like the most humane option.
Actually, the humane option would have been to enter the land & become
assimilated, several bands took this route & were never the source of
carnage in the name of their gods.
That never was the Israelite way around -1200Gr. Let alone around -1000 Gr.
Life was hard in those days, and sometimes short. Not as short as it can be

Hum, you do realise that according to the US Govt, via one of its most

Wow! If I could do that... I'd be sanctimonious, smug and arrogant, too.
Nevermind.
(Dreamily..) Ah.. to be a retard and a Christian like "hughbetcha", to
posses the lack of morals that allow me to lie at will to defend my favorite
fairy tale. To accuse other people of being killers because of stem cell
research and defend the actual genocide of an entire nation on the very same
day. To let the Vatican do my thinking for me so I don't have to bother
figuring out how to use that pesky brain of mine. Life is good in La-La
land.

You're missing the point. The issue is not how well the
ancient Israelites measure, but how well their god does.
No one sensible is bothered that the ancient Israelites
had a vicious tribal culture. It is long gone, its
members not even identifiable except as characters in
myth. The concern is today's fundamentalists, who adopt
the myth as scripture and repackage that god as their
own. You can excuse the ancient Israelites, even for
creating such a god, because of their time and place.
But the fundamentalist god has no such limits. If
innocent infants risk starvation, he can bring mammon.
If they risk dehydration, he can bring rain. Why does he
order their slaughter instead? His followers were just
following orders, and perhaps that's part of the reason
for the myth. It matters not, they are long dead. It's
their god you have to defend. Your god.
That's also why it's stupid to think that posting evil
quotes by atheists somehow balances where the Bible
describes a vicious or fickle god. Atheism isn't a
program for moral improvement. Challenging atheism by
showing the evil done by some atheists is like challenging
the earth's sphericity by showing the evil done by
European colonizers. King Leopold was a brute who killed
millions. The sextant still will locate your position on
the globe, just as it did for his ships.
But you claim a perfect god and a perfect scripture. Any
flaw undermines your religion. That's why pointing out such
flaws sends the fundamentalists into defensive paroxysm,
who then strain at interpretation, attack the critic,
pretend to science, deflect the criticism to the unfortunate
Israelites, fall back on the mysteries, and do anythying
else to avoid the obvious and gaping holes in their ideology.
This isn't a contest between the atheist and believer. It is
a contest between your god and your conscience. You will
salvage the one or the other.

Finally someone around here is making some freakin' sense. Thank you.
However, I don't take the Old Testament literally. Some of the Church
fathers doubted it had any validity to Christians at all. But you seem to,
and you're barking up the wrong tree if you think that posting some OT quote
makes me need to defend *my* God.

Posting a nasty OT quote and using it to condemn Christianity or the Church
is just as ludicrous.

Personally, I try to avoid all those nasty habits.
They aren't necessarily gaping holes, and as for fundamentalists... If
EvilEd had any balls he'd post the Quotes to a fundamentalist group, and if
he had REAL balls, he'd post them to a Jewish group.

That is cool. You interpret the Bible any way you want. What about the
ten commandments? OT baby. Yahway=Lord in most Bibles that is chicken
*****. Praise Yahweh, Yahweh is my shepherd. I make my own religion
also.

Not at all, I can & will pint out the obvious to the ignorant. You do
notice that you had nothing to say about the observation I posted, instead
you are trying to divert attention from that fact.

Well, you would be consistent at any rate. You already display those

In article <ufSdnRQWteSBf1nd4p2dnA@giganews.com>,
says...snip
The Amalekites attacked the Israelites for no good reason as they were
wandering about the Sinai. See Exodus 17:8 SEV (Standard Evil Version).
"When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off
all who were lagging behind" (Deut. 25:17-18). They attacked Israel again in
Judges (Jdg 3:13) and raided the Israelites' land and wrecked their crops,
leaving them with no food (Jdg 6:2-5). They continued to rape and pillage up
to the time of Saul and David (1 Sam 30:1-3). God got fed up with the
Amalekites and told Saul to wipe them out. (1 Sam 15:2-3) - The Amalekites
were BAD. They got what was coming to them.
Heil Hugh! Better brush up on your goose-stepping technique.
