Evil Bible Quote of the Day for June 7, 2004 from www.EvilBible.com:
Genocide (1 Samuel 15:17-21 NAB)
Samuel then said: "Though little in your own esteem, are you not leader
of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king of Israel and sent you
on a mission, saying, 'Go and put the sinful Amalekites under a ban of
destruction. Fight against them until you have exterminated them.' Why then
have you disobeyed the LORD? You have pounced on the spoil, thus displeasing
the LORD." Saul answered Samuel: "I did indeed obey the LORD and fulfill
the mission on which the LORD sent me. I have brought back Agag, and I have
destroyed Amalek under the ban. But from the spoil the men took sheep and
oxen, the best of what had been banned, to sacrifice to the LORD their God
in Gilgal." (1 Samuel 15:17-21 NAB)
What kind of person would get their moral guidance from an ancient book of
myths and magic that says it is OK to murder, rape, pillage, and plunder?

Doesn't the Gospel Of Christ begin with Mathew1:1? That is what I
always heard.

Christians believe they are saved through Jesus Christ. The record of
Christ and his followers began with Mathew. I'm in no position to
defend this since I turned away from the Christanity decades ago.
But I do remember some of the core beliefs and teachings of the
Church.
My point would be the that whatever came before Christ does
not mean much to the christian where their salvation is concerned.

Ed, do you have the specific passage where that came from.. this could be

{
5) Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands
before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing
disobedient children according to the commandment: "He that curseth
father or mother, let him die the death." (Matthew 15:4-7)
}
Apologies for the following inclusion, it is for your convenience.
Matthew 15:
1. Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem,
saying,
2. Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for
they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
3. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the
commandment of God by your tradition?
4. For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He
that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
5. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is
a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
6. And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus
have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your
tradition.
7. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
8. This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth
me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the
commandments of men.
I really want to understand your statement number five from the link
you provided.
The reflection as a whole says to me, "***** you Pharisees! Who are
you to judge me concerning the law? You don't observe the law
yourselves and here's an [example]. Your own prophet spoke evil of
you, can't you see? Besides, those laws are nothing but a doctrine of
the men who command you."
Any thoughts on that Ed?

Most Christians believe that the God of the Old Testament is the same God in

to have direct quotes from God?

Well John does not agree.
John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2  The same was in the beginning with God.
3  All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made
that has been made.
If you can't handle the truth get out of the kitchen.

Let me see if I understand. Jesus is -o-. The Holy Ghost is -o-. The

Jesus=Lord=Holy Ghost killed all of those babies.

Sounds like you have got yourself confused about the validity of the
OT.

I don't think so! It's all *****.

I wasn't talking to you.

You'r right, like I should of read more. I just saw something that didn't
make no sense to me. It just seems foolish to argue over the OTs
when it's all B.S.

Or do you think that just because I was

talking about someone who got confused it must be you?

If Christians throw out the OT they throw out the rest of the
bible.

So what?

Well, most folk would conclude from my point that Christians have the
option of keeping the OT or throwing out the rest of the bible too.
That really shouldn't need explaining

The NT endorses the OT (the only scripture at the time) as inspired by
God (2 Tim 3:16). You are now saying that what the writers were
inspired to write did not happen.

Like this is all horseshit. You can peddle this crap somewhere
else.

What, and forego having you make a fool of yourself? Watching you jump
into a thread that you clearly haven't been following is far too
entertaining.

So Jesus was there when He, Jesus=Lord=Holy Ghost

Christians would say that was wrong. And it no doubt did

Well, let's put the situation up to your uh.. practical ethics...
The Amalekites were a viscious warrior tribe; every adult was a combatant.
Stopping them would mean the Israelites would have had to kill every adult.
That leaves the children. Now, the victorious Israelites had several
options...
1. Take them back as slaves? Assimilate them? Israel barely had the
resources for it's own population.
2. Take them back and turn them over to the Red Cross? No such thing, sorry.
3. Leave them there in the desert to their fate? Dehydration, starvation...
nasty way to go.
4. Kill them right there? So far, this sounds like the most humane option.
Life was hard in those days, and sometimes short. Not as short as it can be

I really doubt that this is factually correct. I find it impossible to

The Bible says this extermination was ordered by the Lord. I would think
that any run of the mill omnipotent omniscient god would be able to think of
some options that you were too stupid to think of. Or isn't your God that
smart? Perhaps he took the short bus to god-school.

1. Take them back as slaves? Assimilate them? Israel barely had the
resources for it's own population.

This passage says the Israelites took all the pillaged livestock to offer as
a sacrifice to the Lord. It doesn't take a genius god to figure out that
these could have been used to feed the Amalekite women and children. If it
was enough to feed the warriors, women, and children before, then it should
have been plenty after killing off the warriors.

2. Take them back and turn them over to the Red Cross? No such thing,

The Amalekite's seemed to be surviving just fine, even after the Israelites
claimed to have exterminated them nearly a dozen times.

4. Kill them right there? So far, this sounds like the most humane option.

Easy for you to say. You're not in charge of a semi-nomadic desert tribe

Unlikely that the children could have survived in the desert without the

revenge.
