Evil Bible Quote of the Day for Oct. 6 (Slavery) |
Evil Bible Quote of the Day for Oct. 6, 2003 from www.EvilBible.com:
Slavery (2 Chronicles 8:7-10 NAB)
"All the people that remained of the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of Israel-- that is, their descendants
remaining in the land, whom the Israelites had not destroyed--Solomon
subjected to forced labor, as they continue to this day. But Solomon did
not enslave the Israelites for his works. They became soldiers, commanders
of his warriors, and commanders of his chariots and his horsemen. They were
also King Solomon's two hundred and fifty overseers who had charge of the
people."
What kind of person would get their moral guidance from an ancient book of
myths and magic that says it is OK to murder, rape, pillage, and plunder?

---------- Commentary on 2 Chronicles 8:7-10
7-10 On Solomon's force of "conscripted" Canaanite labor,
see comment on 1Ch 22:2.
2 The king began by drafting the resident "aliens" to work as stone cutters.
This situation is attested by the existence of a cabinet post on corvee labor,
held by Adoram (2Sa 20:24), and is confirmed by Solomon's similar
arrangements later on (2Ch 2:17-18 and 8:7-9).
