cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/07/08/syphilis.resistance.ap/index.html
reveals that: "Since the late 1990s, doctors and public health clinics
have been giving azithromycin to some syphilis patients because the
long-acting antibiotic pill was highly effective and easy to use. Four
pills taken at once were usually enough to cure syphilis. But now
researchers at University of Washington in Seattle have found at least
10 percent of syphilis samples from patients at sexually transmitted
disease clinics in four cities had a strain resistant to
azithromycin."
As Darwin predicted, a mutation in syphilis (Treponema pallidum, a
bacterium of the order Spirochaetales) has been favored by natural
selection and is becoming more common because it confers a survival
advantage upon the organism.
Creationists will, as usual, try to wheedle their way out of this with
that tired old hobby-horse of theirs called "variability". They argue
that it was their god who instilled variety into the genomes of his
creations for this very purpose - to help them survive.
What creationists dare not do is look as critically at their own
"explanations" as they try to do at the Theory of Evolution.
Why would a god create syphilis in the first place? Even assuming it
was necessary (and how could it be necessary? This is a god we're
talking about! Isn't he supposed to be able to do everything with
nothing?!), it surely wasn't necessary to make humans susceptible to
it in the first place, was it? Even assuming humans had to be subject
to it for some sick reason, why would a god who so loved the Earth
that he gave his misbegotten son to die for it actually give the
disease the advantage of variability?
No! This was not created by any god! It evolved, and continued
evolution resulted in the beneficial mutation (to T. pallidum, that
is) which enabled it to survive and continue to reproduce.
Once again, when it comes down to the facts, creationists lose.

Which can lead to holding hands, and before you know it you've gotta
