Object: EXTREMELY UNIMPORTANT Please don't bother reading.
It's cold again today at only 2 degree. Yesterday it dropped
as low as minus 2.
The coldest winter we have had for many years.
Last night I watched an interesting programme showing local
life back in the fifties with a Parade of Police in a local park.
There was a fascinating display by ambulance men (they were
all volunteers in those days) practising rescuing injured campers.
I Hope you found this not worth passing on.

Speaking of uninteresting things, I'll trade places with you.
We're having one of (if not *the) warmest winters on record. Usually, I
can look forward to the cold killing the mosquitoes and other annoying
bugs as well as all the allergens hunkering down and waiting for Spring.
Not *this year. We get a mini-Spring about every other week.
I haven't stopped sneezing since October...

This is the warmest winter I've ever seen (I'm in Tulsa, OK, USA). A
cold day is around 30-40 degrees, and we've had several weeks now of
mostly in the 50s and 60s.
It's pretty nice.

Centigrade or Fahrenheit?

The coldest winter we have had for many years.

Yes, a snowflake was spotted in Gerrards Cross.

Last night I watched an interesting programme showing local
life back in the fifties with a Parade of Police in a local park.

I saw a local programme where the local Freemasons paraded through the
town.

No defibrillators in those days - if you had a heart attack then it was
straight to the morgue.

I Hope you found this not worth passing on.

There's a radio show called "West Coast Live", (carried by PRI/NPR
usually in the US) which normally broadcasts out of San Francisco. But
once a year, during summer, they head up the Pacific Coast, stopping
along the way to do shows from all over, often all the way up to
Alaska.
Some years ago the host was in Alaska, and he was asking about the
weather. And someone said that it had been a relatively mild winter,
with temperatures "only at about -10", whereas they normally were "at
about -40". The host said "Well, but when you are talking that cold,
surely it makes little difference if it is -10 or -40, it is still
very cold, isn't it?"
The entire auditorium burst out laughing for about a minute.
Yes, it matters. 2 degrees celsius is slightly above freezing point
(which is 0 celsius = 32 Fahrenheit). 2 degrees Fahrenheit is of
course well below the freezing point, about -15 Celsius. They don't
match up until you get to -40, when they are the same.

Oh come on. I didn't fall for that "negative temperature" thing when Robyn
tried to convince me there was a "below freezing." Next you'll be trying
to convince me water sometimes crystallizes into white flakes and falls

LOL! -2?!?
Wuss!
-2 in February, in most of Canada, is considered a balmy, spring-like day!
At +2, like it was today, we take off our coats, restaurants open their
terraces and fire up the barbecues!

The coldest winter we have had for many years.

Wuss!

Last night I watched an interesting programme showing local

There was a fascinating display by ambulance men (they were

I Hope you found this not worth passing on.

I sent it to a few friends, had a good laugh, and then moved on.
But seriously, I feel you pain.

Sorry (again) for the premature send.
I have just been to a local second-hand book fair, interrupting this
post, and forget now what it was I tending to mix. There must have
been a sale or something cos the prices were unusually low so we
bought a bag full of quite good books. I bought "Life at the Court of
the Borgias" and my wife bought a book called "The growth of the
old testament" which looks interesting. I bought a hard back Folio
edition of John Hillaby's walk from Land's End to John O'Groats a
highly entertaining read.

Yer sure, just like a Christian. :-)

'Ex' you have not been readimg my posts and i never miss yours.

Sorry bob, must return the compliment in future.

I tend to read by topic or by interest or maybe 'heck why not'
rather than by individuals and I also tend to mix

Sorry (again) for the premature send.

I have just been to a local second-hand book fair, interrupting this
post, and forget now what it was I tending to mix. There must have
been a sale or something cos the prices were unusually low so we
bought a bag full of quite good books. I bought "Life at the Court of
the Borgias" and my wife bought a book called "The growth of the
old testament" which looks interesting. I bought a hard back Folio
edition of John Hillaby's walk from Land's End to John O'Groats a
highly entertaining read.

.....all that plus a dose of Yorkshire mountain air, I'm gettin' quite envious.
Hong Kong suffers from smog so badly these days sometimes is is impossibe to see
across the harbour. The price we pay for progress; problem is it is not our
progress, the smog comes from over the border in China where they are putting up
factories as fast as they can go.

Thank humanity for the clean air acts here. I can remember those awful

Err no fireplace and just a tiny bottle of brandy to put in our
festive season fruitcake. Last a few years.
Did I shatter an illusion?

Absolutely true. The picture was scanned from a Yorkshire calendar.
The Limestone pavements (known as clints and grykes) are quite
numerous in North Yorkshire. The colour is from the evening light.
Dull grey is the more normal colour of the stone with brown peat
and heather covered lower slopes on the mountain. There is a Celtic
Hill fort on the summit
This shows the more normal colours on a cloudy day.

Yorkshire has a very diverse landscape from mountains to
dales, vales moors and flat fen country not to mention the industrial
West Riding

Last night I watched an interesting programme showing local
life back in the fifties with a Parade of Police in a local park.
There was a fascinating display by ambulance men (they were
all volunteers in those days) practising rescuing injured campers.

I Hope you found this not worth passing on.

Pity is wan't cross-posted extensively so more people could ignore it.

It was rather cold here too. Temps dropped as low as [plus!] 23 C. At
one time I was even contemplating getting a sweater.....
However, summer is early. Now it's about 35 C
