The secularists miss the point, argues Simon Rocker - state-funded
faith schools will immunise against fanaticism, rather than fuel it

Earlier this year, Prince Philip was guest of honour at a dinner at the
Mansion House in London to mark the 350th anniversary of the
resettlement of Jews in England. Interestingly, as an example of Jewish
contribution to Britain, one of the speakers, Lord Levene, a former
lord mayor of the city, chose to highlight Jewish involvement in the
armed services, mentioning such figures as Sir Albert Stern, the banker
who helped to develop the tank. There can be no better proof of a
group's patriotism than its part in the defence of the realm.
