Oh cool! It came to you! ;)

I think it beat me here...;-)

Ouch. Did it leave marks? ;)

It's gotten my feet wet a time or two, when the lowest street in
southwest Houston gets more than .04 inches of rain an hour...;-)

Quack! :)

Fortunately, they tend to stay around the lakes about 4000 feet west in the
old Sharpstown Country Club, now a city park...

Good planning on your part.

Of course, we also get to watch the slow ground movement, thanks to the area
sitting on around a mile and a half of clay on top of bedrock...the northern
tundra gets frost heaves in the winter, and we get them in July and August.

Explain please.

Actually, we get the heat heaves in pavement and concrete slabs, during the
summer. (Not to the extent of the frost heaves up above the 45th during
winter, though.)

We actually got a slightly different version of that this morning in San
Antonio, when KTSA (one of the local news/talk AM stations) got commandeered
for an hour by some preacher whose congregation I never identified, thanks to
his combination of stream-of-consciousness and Oral Roberts. ;-)
Fortunately, we found more informative talk elsewhere on the dial...

Fundies and trolls are urged to shove
a wooden cross up their arses and rotate
at a high rate of speed.

Shouldn't there be like a 200-meter minimum distance from said
fundies and trolls who do that? (They'd be biohazards, at the
least.)

I'm not aware of any studies on this. Be my guest.
It would give you something to do....

I'd give my life for my country, but that wasn't quite what I was
anticipating.

Ah, but you're supposed to expect the unexpected...

True...and with the fundywackos, the unexpected should be expected.
(Their short-term memory tends to be a bit on the lean side, so I won't
be surprised if one pulls the same scam Oral Roberts did - "raise this
many millions or else God is going to 'call me home'"...)

The fools should have said; "Bye."

I was tempted to head up to Tulsa to visit some of my kin, and drop by ORU
to give Brother Anal some advice: "So long! Don't send any
postcards...because paper burns!"

I'm sure he would have rejoyced....

I'd be tempted to tell him I'm related to at least a couple of the people who
helped put up the "900 Ft Jesus Crossing" signs at ORU a couple of decades
ago, myself...

I'm fortunate to not have seen that abortion.

Don't drive into Tulsa on the Okmulgee Beeline, then, as you can see it quite
well on a decent day from a few miles away, across the valley...

I don't have to take a walk. These days, southwest Houston *is* the
wild side...;-)

(Welcome back.)

That's several states' "state bird."

Down here, it's a toss-up between the average mosquito and the roaches.

You know, I'm pretty sure that Texas is one of those states with fire

skeeters, one can find roaches near the waterfronts, but you have to go
looking for them :). We've got bees, wasps, dragonflies, horse flies,
lady bugs, I don't think we have any crawling bugs, just flying ones.

The only AFB in that part of the world I remember is Grand Forks, but then
up until the late '80s the Dakotas weren't of interest to me...until one of
their expatriates got my attention, which she's had ever since.

Occupational hazard. ;)

It's worked out well enough that my dream job would allow me to live down
here from October to May, and up somewhere around Sisseton from May to
October (even if I had to put up with the quadrillion-mosquito clouds up
there)...

That's several states' "state bird."

Down here, it's a toss-up between the average mosquito and the roaches.

/cue the 'walking on potato chips sound' when someone walks along the
sidewalk as dusk approaches.

You know, I'm pretty sure that Texas is one of those states with fire
ants :) Here in beautiful SoCal we have very few bugs, no fire ants, no
skeeters, one can find roaches near the waterfronts, but you have to go
looking for them :). We've got bees, wasps, dragonflies, horse flies,
lady bugs, I don't think we have any crawling bugs, just flying ones.

SoCal has amazing temperatures in the summer, too, at least to my
recollection.
We, in Massachusetts, don't have much of anything, other than a ton of
schools and fuckwitted motorists.
