I always find it amusing when ERWBDCs talk about California being a
"liberal" state. ALL of the major cities (SF is only a "major city" when
you're talking tourism) are predominantly CONservative. After being
fucked over by REPUGNANTcons as often as the CONservatives are, you'd
think they'd learn their lesson, but noooo.
"ERWBDC's?" That requires a thinking populace.
Rattlesnakes *USED* to live here, wild critters aren't real fond of
asphalt and cement, there are a few places in the county but no where
near the city where you ocassionally run across a Coyote or Puma, but
those ocassions are becoming more and more rare. I was born and raised
here and my grandmother had a horse ranch out in the country, she used
to feed the wild critters so they'd leave the horses alone. I can
remember small black bears, Coyotes, Pumas, Jack Rabbits, quail, Gila
Monsters, deer, wolves and foxes. For the most part they're all gone now.
Now there's all sorts of "lettle monsters." (chuckling)
Very few outside the zoo, they've got a pair of Komodo Dragons. I'd sure
hate to run into one of those whilst gardening :)

Been there. Was on a USAF flight west from Mich when the aircraft
developed engine trouble over Lake Michigan and the aircraft returned
to Selfridge for repairs. One guy stayed behind to fix it while the
rest of us hopped aboard a larger USAF aircraft which was returning to
base at Fargo. The aircraft being repaired would catch up with us
that, Sunday, evening.
At Fargo we were bummed to find you couldn't buy beer. So, we grabbed
a USAF staff car and went north into Minnesota to find that town
wouldn't sell beer on Sunday-in response to a Fargo request we were
told. So we headed west to the next town at a bar and filled the
trunk with beer.
Once back at the Fargo base it was beer and poker to while the time
away. Late that evening the aircraft showed up, the guy had to
rebuild the carburetor of the C-131 prop job. The next morning we
all, bowling team, boarded the aircraft and returned to our west coast
base.
Thank you for serving the country.

Hmmm. I think Katie stopped counting birthdays after 150; technically,
she's 155 years old, save a bit of controversy concerning her recorded
birthdate at '50 and '51 of the ninteenth century. Her literary work
was literally ignored until the the '70s of the twentieth-century (talk
about battling to break into the business); her achievement only
realized at 120 (+) years-old!
Of course, I am ions older than Katie, and I have been around a lot
longer since I am the godess of this crazy rock and have been since its
inception. The other gods/godesses and I have this bet on to see which
religious faction will flounder, first; there's a dead-tie between
islam and Christianity.

Dale got hers thanks to her two older sisters, who thought that Roy
Rogers was the greatest thing since sliced bread, at the time...of
course, these days, no one remembers his wife's name, thus the
occasional raised eyebrow at her name.
;-) I know!
Evidently, enough people remember that I don't have to worry much about
e-mails from others who think I'm married to a man. (I got a few of those,
when I first waded out into Usenet all those years ago.)
I'm surprised not a soul knows how I managed to come into my name,
given that I'm about a hundred and fifty years old, and at five, my
father died and that's when my literary hell broke loose! <chuckles>

That's encouraging to know, so I won't worry much about not being noticed, at
the young age of 50 (and 194 days :).
Of course, I am ions older than Katie, and I have been around a lot
longer since I am the godess of this crazy rock and have been since its
inception. The other gods/godesses and I have this bet on to see which
religious faction will flounder, first; there's a dead-tie between
islam and Christianity.
They're both skating three on three, at the moment, and getting continual
bench minors for trying to put too many men on the ice...and power play? More
like powerless play. ;-)

the first plane of that fated trip, five years (and some change) ago.
At least you got to be inside at IAH, which is better than the other five
million of us (minus about 20,000 on the average weekday) get.
Patrick; Gaia told me it was Hobby from which she departed, on that
fated trip to other side of the world--not IAH. (I queried that one
with her, in e-mail; I had to know what the trip was all about!)
My mistake...in any case, Hobby has a/c, too. The garages are an entirely
different can of worms. ;-)

I'll have to agree, seeing as I used both Hobby AND IAH, to get in and
out of Texas, on a couple of occassions. ;-)

At least you didn't have to worry about going for the grand slam and going
through Ellington or Sugar Land. ;-)

It'll be probably a bit later for either of those two airports: Ellington's
been occasionally used for commercial flight since the Air Force left in the
'70s, and the latest round of base closures is removing the Air National Guard
unit based there next year, so its future is uncertain, considering it's
barely five miles away from Hobby. Sugar Land is mostly general aviation,
with very occasional commercial traffic, but that part of the metro is being
developed with a vengeance, and if the last four decades are any indication,
the battle lines are already being drawn. (Of course, SGR is by far the
closest of the four to us. :-)

I see that osprey's been his bastardly self, overnight.
Of course.
In that case, I'll throw in this little tidbit: apparently, Dale and I are
going to be grandparents for a third time - and possibly on our anniversary,
to boot: we just got the call from South Dakota this morning...
OH MY WORD!!! HAHAHAHAHAH! WOW!
I'll phone, in a few moments.
