I watched a show about the history of the whole "Jewish Messiah" idea
on the History Channel this week, and the show mentioned a false
messiah named "Shabbetai Tzvi" that I'd never even heard of around
here before. He lived during the 1600's, and all around the world at
that time, most Jewish people believed he was actually the messiah.
It seems that the modern Jewish people are ashamed of the whole
fiasco, being so widely duped as they were back then, and they don't
really wanna talk about it in public or even in private, so it seems.
It's best left forgotten according to several Jewish links that I've
read about him and his false messiahship.

"In 1665, pronouncing the Ineffable Name of God, Shabbetai Tzvi
declared himself to be the Messiah. A court of three horrified rabbis
considered trying him for heresy."
"Shabbetai Zevi then read the portion of the Torah not from the
customary scroll but from a printed copy; ignoring the priests and
levites present, he called up to the reading of the Law his brothers
and many other men and women, distributing kingdoms to them and
demanding that all of them pronounce the Ineffable Name in their
blessings."
"In a furious speech against the unbelieving rabbis, he compared them
to the unclean animals mentioned in the Bible."
This is the same type behaviour that Jesus was said to have done in
the stories in the New Testament, where he supposedly called the
Jewish priests "vipers and dogs," and such actions and behaviour would
certainly have caused the Jewish priests of the time to want to get
rid of such a troublemaker as Jesus.
Another portion of the above:
"The daily devotions for day and night arranged by Nathan the Prophet
were recited, and many editions of them were published in Amsterdam,
Frankfort, Prague, Mantua, and Constantinople. At night people would
lie down naked in the snow for half an hour and scourge themselves
with thorns and nettles."
So, messiah-believing Jews actually got naked and made snow angels
with blood coming out of their wounds that were caused by their own
scourging with thorns and nettles or thistles. How fucking weird is
that? It's no more weird than the current Christians who consider
themselves to be covered in the blood of Christ, or those who
willingly get nailed to crosses in order to try to imitate their
bloody savior-on-a-stick...
Boy oh boy, what a sick religion Christianity is, and it's obvious
that the sickness itself comes from Judaism, and the whole idea of
some pretended messiah that people hope will come to save the day,
instead of relying on themselves to fix the problems they have to deal
with day by day...
