False pledges from rel.groups which don't want movie made |
BEHOLDER Film Update from Darlene Lieblich
HEART of the BEHOLDER Film Update - Nov. 2003
From Producer Darlene Lieblich -
======================================================
Topics -
** Current Film Funding Pledge Status
** Some Bad News - Loss of Pledges
** Some Good News - Changes in Loan Proposal
** Preproduction Has Started for a Spring 2004 Shoot
======================================================
Film Funding Production Goal = $500,000
Film Funding Pledges Received as of Nov. 10 = $262,125
Current Film Funding Pledges Revised = $217,325
======================================================
The Bad News -
To recap - Last summer we ran a promotion to fund our film by
pre-selling DVDs and videos. We raised over $437,000 toward our
production budget goal. Because we didn't meet our goal, all funds
were returned.
During that promotion, we had many people order our products by credit
card and then changed their mind and refused the charge through their
credit card company. The funds were credited back and we were left with
significant charge back fees that we had to pay for out of our own pocket.
Later research of their names and email addresses through a Google
Internet search showed that they were members of religious groups
that DO NOT WANT our movie made.
A recent Google search of names and email addresses of people who
have pledged to help fund our film has also shown links to these
religious groups which has forced us to ignore their pledges and remove
their pledge amount from our tally.
======================================================
The Good News - Changes in Our Loan Proposal
We are soliciting financial assistance for our film from supporters in the
form of personal loans to the production company. The interest rate we
will pay has been raised from 10% per year (compounded daily) for two
years, to 25% per year (compounded daily) for two years due to further
research and definition of the rules regarding usury rates in California.
By compounding the interest daily, the effective annual interest rate is
28.39% and the two year total compounded interest would be 65.98%.

Other Changes -
We have 14 featured extra roles with trips to Hollywood that we can give
away. We will give the TOP 4 lenders these roles and trips, and the
other 10 roles/trips will be auctioned off on EBay.
The complete Promissory Note will be posted on the website in December
with details about collection of the notes in January.
======================================================
Preproduction Has Started for a Spring 2004 Shoot
The Screen Actors Guild has two low budget production contracts. One for
budgets of $200,000 and another for $500,000. Info can be found at -
http://sagindie.org/contracts.html
We know we have at least $200,000 so we have started preproduction
activity by interviewing Line Producers who do the actual budgets and
scheduling of the entire production.
Once we get a firm shooting schedule, we can then approach recognizable
STAR talent to attach to our project and that information will be posted
on the website. It's hoped that before we roll film (actually High
Definition Digital Video), that we will be able to raise the funds to
qualify for the $500,000 movie.
We will shoot from April through June with post production completed
by October of 2004, when we will submit our film to debut at the Jan.
2005 Sundance Film Festival.
More info later and THANKS for your support -
