Bush Campaign Courting People of Faith
There is news today that President Bush's re-election campaign is seeking to
motivate churchgoers to support the President this fall. This comes as a new
poll by USA Today shows that people who attend church regularly are
overwhelmingly more likely to vote for a Republican than a Democrat. Critics
of the President have slammed his campaign's effort, saying that it will
meld politics and religion together. I don't seem to remember them raising a
fuss when Al Gore spoke in heavily Democratic churches back in 2000, but
that's beside the point.
The fact is religious Americans have as much a right to participate in the
political process as any other group. And having just spoken via satellite
to members of over 500 churches and listeners on 1,500 radio stations during
FRC's "Battle for Marriage" simulcast, I know that there is one issue that
will energize the Christian community unlike any other, reaching across
ethnic and racial lines: the sanctity of marriage. Christians throughout the
country are beginning to realize that the same-sex weddings being performed
right now in Massachusetts will spread to the rest of the nation.
In a nation that is politically polarized there is not another issue that
finds such overwhelming support among Americans. Those church-going
Americans, who are concerned about what same-sex "marriage" will do to our
nation, will respond in one of two ways. If there is clear, unequivocal
political leadership that says "follow me - we'll protect marriage" they
will turnout to vote in record numbers. If on the other hand political
leaders avoid the topic, I am afraid that paralysis brought on by fear will
cause those voters to hunker down in their churches and give up on the
political process. We must not let that happen.
Bishop in Hot Water for Holding Politicians Accountable
In the ongoing attempt to silence churches from speaking out on public
matters, the small but loud shop of Americans United for the Separation of
Church and State has called on the IRS to investigate the Catholic diocese
of Colorado Springs because of a pastoral letter sent last month by its
bishop, Bishop Michael Sheridan. The letter defines abortion, embryonic stem
cell research, euthanasia, and same-sex "marriage" as "intrinsically evil"
and says that a Catholic cannot be in full communion with the Church and
support these issues.
Americans United is bullying Bishop Sheridan and other churches across the
country - threatening to have their tax-exempt status revoked - in the hope
of removing any foundation of morality or faith from the public square. This
is shameless. Pastors have a right and a duty to speak to issues of morals,
and all of us must pray that our church leaders will not be intimidated into
silence but will be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and speak with a strong
voice on matters of public morality.
Cloning Ban Passed in Louisiana
Congratulations are in order for the hard working pro-lifers in my home
state of Louisiana, led by my former colleagues Rep. Gary Beard and Sen. Art
Lentini. By an overwhelming vote of 97-2 the House of Representatives passed
a ban on human cloning for reproduction and so-called "research." Thanks to
an outpouring of citizen concern this is a duplicate of a complete ban that
was passed by their Senate a couple of weeks ago. The Governor pledged to
sign a complete ban on human cloning during her campaign and we expect that
she will honor her commitment. To contact the Governor, click on the link
provided below.

You just call that pandering. What Mr. Bush is doing is illegal and
could very well end up with any church that goes along with him
losing its tax exemption. I can believe that Bush is this stupid.

Guess again, Tootsie. Such a law would not make it, since it
is obviouly unConstitutional, no matter how misleading its
name is.
Please don't shout. It makes you look like a loon. Also, please
learn how to spell and punctuate properly.
Then, again, don't bother, since you are obviously a troll. You
give this away through the choice of words you misspell, the
words that you spell correctly AND THE SHOUTING.

WELL

convinced me of the validity of your viewpoint and seriously made me
consider the virtues of the opposing opinion in a sensible, reasoned and
frankly ecumenical exchance of ideological honesty. Perhaps you should

You forget that Bush does what he wants and if the rules don't support it
the rules can be changed. How long do you think it will take if
"faith-based initiaves" are instituted before the first reports of
discrimination in their administration surface?
There are 11 churches within walking distance from my location, including
one huge one that just went up, and that is just one section of a relatively
small city. If they were paying into the city's coffers perhaps the city
wouldn't feel the need to increase taxes by deciding that everyone's home
values had suddenly doubled. They get to make policy and determine local
television and if they are a "majority", so be it, but not on my dime...

Its interesting, however, how willing these followers are willing to hand over
their cash to their church, and yet they walk off and whine about how much
they're taxed, how how much things cost.
Maybe these brain surgeons stopped wasting their money pumping cash into
churches simply so that a bigger church can be built, and instead redirect
that money to something more important.
