Yep, that vaunted Christian moral superiority.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_antisemitism
In 1481, Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, the rulers
of Spain who financed Christopher Columbus' voyage to the New World
just a few years later in 1492, declared that all Jews in their
territories should either convert to Catholicism or leave the country.
While some converted, many others left for Portugal, France, Italy
(including the Papal States), Holland, Poland, the Ottoman Empire, and
North Africa. Many of those who had fled to Portugal (where, by then
they constitued an estimated 1/3 of the population), were forcibly
converted in 1496 rather than face martyrdom (exile was not offered as
a third option as it had been in Spain 6 years earlier). Some sources
claim that between four and eight thousand Jews who had formally
converted, were burnt alive by the Inquisition in Spain based on the
accusation that they were still secretly practicing Judaism. It is
arguable whether this constitutes anti-Semitism in the racist sense,
since it was directed at recent (though forced) converts from Judaism.

The use of the word, "anti-semitism" is a self-serving ploy the type
typical of propaganda machines. Suni Arabs and many other Near Eastern
people are Semitic. Even the Palestinians are the same race as the
Israelis. What divides them is the 4,000 year old primitive faith of
Judaism and its doctrines of "the Chosen People" and "their Promised
Lands".
Just because Jews see themselves as a race/tribe does not mean they
are. It is just one of their doctrines. Actually what they are are
believers in the Judaic faith. It is their beliefs that set them apart
and is the target of so many groups and people all over the world. It
is because of the political policies inherent in their beliefs and has
nothing to do with race.

What a load of rubbish Chas wrote:

That line, and others like it, has become the self-serving ploy typical
of antisemites spewing antisemitic propaganda.

Suni Arabs and many other Near Eastern people are Semitic.

Actually, they are not. "Semitic" is a linguistic, not an ethnic or
racial, designation.

Even the Palestinians are the same race as the Israelis.

Neither Israelis nor so-called "Palestinians are, or ever were, races.

What divides them is the 4,000 year old primitive faith of
Judaism and its doctrines of "the Chosen People" and "their Promised
Lands".

How extremely convoluted this last bit of garbage is. For one, Judaism
has no "doctrine of the Chosen People" or of "their Promised Land." For
another, Judaism isn't the divisive element here; Islam and pan-Arabism
is.

Just because Jews see themselves as a race/tribe does not mean they
are. It is just one of their doctrines.

It isn't and never was a Jewish "doctrine", as Jews do not, and have
never, considered themselves a race.

Actually what they are are believers in the Judaic faith.

Actually, what they are are children born to Jewish mothers or mother
who converted to Judaism or are converts to Judaism themselves.

It is their beliefs that set them apart
and is the target of so many groups and people all over the world.

Wrong again. Hatemongers like "Chas" here are what set Jews apart.

It is because of the political policies inherent in their beliefs and has
nothing to do with race.

There are few, if any, "political policies inherent" in Jewish beliefs.
For that, you have to go to Islam.

6 years earlier meaning in 1490. Not even 1481. What idiots are writing
this stuff?

Nothing racist. The Inquisition suspected (probably with reason) that
many of them were not real converts. Spotting people avoiding pork was
all too easy.

DEAR OLD CATHOLICS AND THE INQUISITION THEY WERE BUSY BOILING PEOLE IN OIL
WHETHER YOU WERE JEWISH OR JUST DISAGREED WITH THEM.
THEY GOT DOWN TO THE JEWS ONLY BECAUSE THEY HAD RUN OUT OF VICTIMS HAVING
KILLED OF ANYONE WHO WASNT JEWISH WHO HAD THE TEMERITY NOT TO ASSURE THE
LOCAL PRIEST/BISHOP THAT HE WAS A GOD FEARING CATHOLIC.
IN FACT IN THE INITIAL DAYS THE JEWS HAD NOTHING TO FEAR BEING RECOGNISED BY
THE CHURCH AS NON CHRISTIAN SINNERS.

If you think wikipedia has it wrong and you have reliable sources to
show that, then why not go there and see about helping them correct it
instead of just bitching about it here? That's what the wikipedia model
is all about.
