FAO Grinder: In re new post-ressurection chronology thread on free.christians |
Grinder,
Could you please add alt.atheism or alt.religion to the newsgroups when you
post you new thread on the chronology?
My ISP doesn't have free.christians and Google gets the posts several hours
after they are posted. I have been following the first thread on Mary
weeping with great interest and I just was wondering if you could add one of
the other groups that my ISP does carry so I can read along more easily.
Thanks in advance if you can help me out. As of now Google doesn't have any
new thread from you for Jason on his chronology so I hope I wrote in time.
Best regards,
sharon

You're too good to me. :)
And my hat's off to you for keeping Gastrich engaged this long. Usually, he
flies off in a huff and says a prayer when he's cornered.

Yea, i was impressed and it was a very enlightening dicussion. I have
to say it warrants being polite to Jason since he certainly seems
willing to engage in real discussion with those that are civil. We
just need to bite our tongues more and follow Grinders good manners,
although I admit, sometimes it is hard.

True but sometimes he runs even in the face of reasonably polite discourse.
I would say his refusal(inability) to answer McHugh's questions I posted
from the actual debate is a case in point. I suspect he might have just
answered those six numbers questions, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, if
he could.
There's a reason why he didn't answer them in the debate and it's the same
reason he didn't answer them when I posted them. And it's NOT the reason
that he gave... something about being unimpressed with the questions. Well
if they are so unimpressive then he should be able to answer them in
relatively short order, no?

No doubt he should be able to answer them easily. Lets hope Grinder
will have success in engaging Jason on those issues. I sense that
Jason is overwhelmed by multipart questions hence the easy to run
excuse You're question bombing. so grinders approach of one at a time
might yield more discussion.
Strangely, in Grinders previous thread, Davey is trying to argue that
the bible is subjective BUT not to God. I'm not sure what to make of
it but I can't see how that makes any sense. Apparently it does have
errors but God can harmonize these errors?
Kind of like Newtons theories of gravitation versus Einsteins theory of
relativity? F=ma is a good approximation and despite being technically
wrong cannot be considered an error? God on the other hand sees
everything from Einsteins perspective. Maybe this analogy is a
stretch.

God made both Einsteinian physics and Planckian physics, although they
contradict each other. They cannot of course really be in contradiction, for
both are true. So it is, I say, with the apparent contradictions of
scripture. God is great and complex enough for these not to be a problem,
but we in our limited understanding may bstumble on them if we choose to do
so.
I doubt that Jason actually disagrees with this. I am saying that whatever
problems there are in the Bible are of our perception and not of God's
provision of a wrongful text. He did not provide us with a wrongful text,
but a text that is sufficient and authoritative guidance in the crucial
matters of faith and life, and also with accurate insights on the origin and
destiny as well as purpose of mankind.
The Bible is not fallible, but we are. Maybe that is why the Bible doesn't
refer to itself as infallible, but does say that all scripture is
profitable, in the spiritual meaning of that word. We do not have a faulty
Bible.

I am referring to the apparant randomness in quantum mechanics which

"Atheism is the world of reality, it is reason, it is freedom. Atheism is human
concern, and intellectual honesty to a degree that the religious mind cannot
begin to understand. And yet it is more than this. Atheism is not an old

been, a religion at all. The definition of Atheism is magnificent in its
simplicity: Atheism is merely the bed-rock of sanity in a world of madness."

| Surely.
It hasn't worked for me. I try to always remain polite, and I
think I've succeeded, but Jason usually only responds to me a
couple of times before moving on. I do use sarcasm alot, and he
might view that as rudeness. Actually, I suspect he prefers the
more abusive posts because they make him feel like he's justified
in claiming that he's been abused.
And he doesn't imagine what he says and does to atheists is rudeness?
The very existence of atheists is rudeness to us, so what do you want?
Thank you for that example of the christian attitude. Only
christians have a right to life. The rest of us should do the
polite thing and just drop dead.
I'm surprised Uncle Davey was so frank.

No, you should convert, as you are told to do.
Dropping dead prior to doing so would not be advisable, not in our theology
anyway.
Christians don't have a right to life, but at least we know who to be
grateful to that we have it, and rank ingratitude is a mainstay of rudeness.

Frankness is the way I prefer to play.
Now please repent of your sin, and try to believe and trust in Jesus.
Nothing else will do you any long-term good.

These are only short-term solutions.
Money, power and authority, carnal gratification and physical health obsess
us, but they, like the fish given to the starving man, are ephemeral
nourishments.
Such comforts are fleeting, and only the work of Christ and His mercy endure
for ever.

I doubt he has the intelligence to realize what his comment really
means. That the existence of intelligence greater than his own is
"rudeness" to him.
