Object: Fellow atheists: Stop calling it "Xianity"
It's not funny. It's not clever. It's makes you sound stupid, spiteful,
ideological, and childesh.
And it's not even offensive to Christians:
http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/xmasabbr.asp
"The X abbreviation of 'Xmas' for 'Christmas' is neither modern nor
disrespectful. The notion that it is a new and vulgar representation of
the word 'Christmas' seems to stem from the erroneous belief that the
letter 'X' is used to stand for the word 'Christ' because of its
resemblance to a cross, or that the abbreviation was deliberately
concocted "to take the 'Christ' out of Christmas." Actually, this usage
is nearly as old as Christianity itself, and its origins lie in the
fact that the first letter in the Greek word for 'Christ' is 'chi,' and
the Greek letter 'chi' is represented by a symbol similar to the letter
'X' in the modern Roman alphabet. Hence 'Xmas' is indeed perfectly
legitimate abbreviation for the word 'Christmas' (just as 'Xian' is
also sometimes used as an abbreviation of the word 'Christian').
None of this means that Christians (and others) aren't justified in
feeling slighted when people write 'Xmas' rather than 'Christmas,' but
the point is that the abbreviation was not created specifically for the
purpose of demeaning Christ, Christians, Christianity, or Christmas --
it's a very old artifact of a very different language."
Even if something is perfectly correct usage, grammer, spelling, if
you're using it for the purpose of offending, you are being
ill-mannered.

Or at least a hypochristian...oops I meant a hypoxian or maybe a hypoxn.
FWIW, I wouldn't mind if they abbreviated "atheist" as "ath" or "atx",
but that's a different story.

It's not funny. It's not clever. It's makes you sound stupid, spiteful,
ideological, and childesh.

And it's not even offensive to Christians:

It is when atheists and anti-Christians deliberately use it to be offensive.
I've noticed that trend here. Thanks for acknowledging the problem. As a
Christian, I applaud your compassion and forthrightness. I've found it mildly
offensive because of the contextual issues, but now flippantly call Christians
I think are jackasses "Xtians." It's rubbed off. ;^)

I think are jackasses "Xtians." It's rubbed off. ;^)

Hmmmm.....Lucifer=light. In the Bible, Lucifer never killed anyone
and told the truth. In the Bible, 'God' lies, kills, and more.
Therefore, Lucifer is the white light while 'God' is the black light.
Isn't that special?

So you are a Satanist?

You're fully aware I'm not a theist and you still ask the question.
You're also fully aware I'm working within the precepts of your
superstition. You might think on why you're bothered by my previous
post.

No. He understands and has no problem with those who lack theism.

@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com:

I have had it with all this touchy-feely post y2kish attitude that is so
prevelent today. The truth of the matter we are letting verbage hide the
truth at best and in many cases conpletely thwart it. I have to ask you, if
you are a Xtian (an abbreviation started by Xtians" why are you in an atheist
newsgroup?
Feel slighted? Jesus Christ man, get a grip. If you really want to feel
slighted, become an atheist and make it known in the workplace and at all
social gatherings. You will see a whole new side to Xtians that you never
new existed. Bigotry, prejudice, scorn, and in same cases outright hate will
be exhibited by these alleged Xtians. Every single Xtian I have ever known,
myself included, is what I term a highlighting Xtian, They take the very
principles and philosphy of Jesus and if there is something they don't like
in it, they blatently ignore it. It is writtten "Turn the other cheek" and
it is these same assholes that know that verse and what it means that are the
first to drag a fellow Xtian into court. Why? Revenge. Thous shall not
kill is a personal favorite on mine. There is no exception list and yet
there are the first to volumnteer to kill, to vote to kill others, and to
relish in the witnessing in the sight of men killing men. There are so many
other examples for this selective choosing of rules that Jesus gave you that
you ignore, there isn't enough time or space to illustrate each.
I view it like this. It is a fact that Xtains in general are a lying
hypocritical lot. I lived the hypocracy and after careful evaluation, I
decided that the modern Xtian life exceeds my limits for hypocricy. I refuse
to be brought down to the Xtian standard of ethics. Now one could argue that
I refuse to live my life as Jesus preached. That is true. I admit it as I
find the demands that Jesus would have everyone live by are quite impossible
unless I become a missonary. That is a job I choose not to do.
Would it be better that I acknowledge that I will not and cannot live the
life as Jesus dictated or should I lie to myself and others and not live the
Jesus life? I refuse to lie to myself, or to anyone else for that matter.
Not anymore. I realize that I have been lied to for so long by so many
Xtians and really stupid Xtians in a position of authority that it makes me
nauseous just thinking about it.
I have heard all the trite and meaningless phrases tossed oround like so much
fodder. They mean nothing to you and as such they mean nothing to me. How
can I make such a statement? If it truly meant something to you you wouldn't
be here attempting to gain a convert by preaching or quoting the bible. Use
that brain of yours and you will see it is pointless.
Xtians, if you truly loved your neighbor you would quit with the mindless
chatter about the bible, it holds nothing for the me, an atheist. I think of
it as nothing short of a rather lengthy bit of old poorly written fiction.
Jesus was God? *****! He likely existed but he certainly was not God
assunming there is one. Yes, we claim there is no God because if there were
one we certainly would not have 50,000 dead children from a Tsunami. "Suffer
the children to come to me" he said. Now if Jesus were God and truthful he
would have added "...so I can kill them when I get *****". There are
many others, but I think even the most dullwitted Xtian can understand that
basic concept.
Want to "love your neighbor" and "bless those that curse you"? Go away and
leave us alone. Preach by example, not with words. Want to do something
constructive? Figure out how to preach without relying on the bible, quotes
from the bible, or any reference to anyone or anything in it. Do that and I
will be impressed.
Here is anovel concept so you and other Xtians don't feel slighted. Stay
away from atheists. They will "blaspheme" and use the word "Xtian" and will
make you feel bad.
