Object: First Popetown, now Tony Blair
BBC3 has cancelled its scurrilous new cartoon series, "Popetown" on the grounds
that it may be offensive to Catholics. Set in the Vatican, Popetown portrayed a
deranged old man who wizzed around on a pogo stick:

I applaud the BBC for taking this courageous decision to completely cave in to a
small but vociferous pressure group. I would now like to encourage them to take
a similar stance on His Holiness Tony Blair.
There has been a spate of anti prime ministerial rants on the BBC over the last
few years, which many New Labourites find extremely offensive. Justifiable
criticism is of course to be welcomed, but many of these so-called "news" and
"documentary" programs have sought to undermine the integrity and good character
of our beloved PM.
His Holiness is a man whom many millions of people hold in extremely high
regard, especially his old school chums and colleagues from Matrix Chambers who
have benefited so enormously from his generous patronage. The Prime Minister has
been shown to be infallible when he speaks, ex cathedra, on all matters of
security and warfare, a fact which has been repeatedly emphasized by four
Ecumenical Councils of the government, one of which ("Huttonis et Orbi") rightly
blamed everything that had gone wrong in Iraq on the BBC and its satanic News
department.
I therefore call upon the BBC to ban all future criticism or mockery of this
endearing middle aged gentleman and stick to a more edifying diet of soap operas
and property improvement documentaries.
p.s. I would remind the BBC that its charter comes up for renewal shortly. Not
of course that this has anything at all to do with the above.
