FL GOP Judge Convicted of DUI. |

Judicial candidate won't oppose judge convicted of DUI
Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio - A judicial candidate has backed out of his race against a
judge convicted of drunken driving, saying he didn't want to run a negative
campaign.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge John Connor, convicted of DUI twice in
the last five years, will run against Julie Paek Hubler after Patrick Smith
dropped out. Both are Republican lawyers from suburban Dublin.
"In the last year, he's been 100 percent sober. He's going to AA meetings.
He's doing everything the right way," said Smith, who would have been
seeking his first public office. "It'd have to be dirty to beat him. I
didn't want to be part of that."
Connor, a Democrat first elected in 1992, pleaded guilty in February to a
drunken-driving charge in Florida.
Whether the DUI is a factor in the campaign is "truly, truly up to the rest
of Franklin County," said Hubler, who plans to campaign about broader issues
of integrity and respect for the law.
"People still expect the judges to be a little bit above it all. People
should demand that, and they deserve that," she said.
Connor said his drunken-driving conviction "has nothing to do with
integrity."

This is a poorly written and confusing article, but I think the judge
who was convicted of DUI was a democrat.

I'm sorry, but it does have to do with integrity.
