I consider myself a christian. And, like most christians, I'm very
tolerant of versions of christianity that are not my own. This is
because there are clearly several ways to God - some christian, some
non-christian, and others that are so personal that it is difficult to
assign any particular religious tradition to them. And experience has
taught that it is foolish to claim a monopoly of one tradition, or
state that it is superior to others.
Nevertheless, I was brought up in a particular protestant tradition,
and worked out my own personal theology in the light of experience, as
many people do. Consequently, Roman Catholic Canon Law means
absolutely nothing to me. Nor does the authority of the Vatican or its
institutions. Nor does it mean anything to those people who are not
Roman Catholics.
Why am I saying this? Because you are distorting this issue (which is
an internal matter solely relating to the Roman Catholic Church) by
using emotive language - "for the resident God haters"). You are
lumping all christian denominations together and implying that Kerry
is in trouble with them all. You are also implying that many (perhaps
the majority) of Kerry supporters are godless. And you (and others)
are using an issue of personal morality and an issue of Roman Catholic
doctrine for political ends.
And you have given this particular christian, and, doubtless, many
others, great offense....

Unfortunately, it doesn't apply because Kerry doesn't reject the
teachings of the church on abortion. He only rejects illegally imposing
them upon others by force of law. That ipso facto excommunication stuff
is dubious at best and far from official.

I would be satisfied if the Church would excommunicate politicians who support

them what to do? Why?

But then again,

If they want to involve themselves in politics, it doesn't seem unreasonable
to ask that they apply their moral doctrines to all the issues. If it is
always wrong to kill babies, then it is also wrong to support the death
penalty, and also wrong to kill people for political reasons.

Of course they don't. That is the nice thing about the Bible (or Koran, for
that matter), its vague enough that people can (and do) justify anything
they want to believe in. For your information, and its sounds like you
could use some, the Christian church is not some monolithic organization or
belief. Its everything from Aryan Christians who believe its allright to
kill if the person being killed is not white, to the Democrat Liberal
Christians who believe its alright to kill if the person being killed is a
Republican puke.

I am anti-xian, anti-cathlolic, anti-religious, but I also recognize the

its membership to those who share its views. But then I also consider it
VERY hypocritical for the Catholic church to start excommunicating
politicians and even regular members for deviating from the official
church ideology, while not excommunicating or even reprimanding all the
perverted pedophile priests who molest little boys or the bishops who
cover it up. John Kerry's opinion on abortion is irrelevant, he will
never have or perform one. So what the church is condemning is John
Kerry's thoughts, not his actions, while seemingly approving of the
actions of its priests when they molest little boys.
Also, I do think that all churches should be taxed, but current tax law
allows them tax exemption IF they stick to preeching religion. The
moment they begin endorsing political candidates or policies they become
political advocacy groups and subject to taxation. I'm sure they won't
have a problem paying their taxes, all they have to do is sell just one
of the pope's solid gold toilet seats. They might also save some money
by defrocking the pedophile priests so they won't have to pay so much
money in settlements to the molested little boys.

If you are a fellow American patriot and lover of the First Amendment, then

Unfortunately, I think you've come to the wrong place. See the bottom of

Especially if you remember the old days of thoughtful discussion in the
newsgroups, this triumph of noise over signal may sadden you. Hyde Park of
the world and cheap advertising are all that remain.
However, there are many alternatives. For example, there are many more
"refined" forums on the Web where polite discussions can be found. Even
better if you can build bridges to real people in the physical world. For
example, you could treat a rational RINO to a movie--like Fahrenheit 9/11.
Lots of good books still being published. (Michael Moore has two new ones.)
You could write a letter for your local paper--you'll reach more "normal"
people and probably have more impact than here. Or you could donate to the
political campaigns--I confess I've already made seven donations. Just
remember that big money is harming democracy, that BushCo has more money
than anyone, and that if money alone decides elections then the American
republic is already dead.
Last, but MOST important: VOTE! Your nation needs you NOW!
On the other hand, if you are a Bushevik troll, then in the immortal
floor-of-the-Senate words of the unloved ***** Cheney: "Go f*ck yourself.
When selecting "featured" posts for this mindless blather thread, the
following factors are considered:
1. Ad hominem evasion of real issues.
2. Stone-headed fanaticism.
3. Generalized hate speech, such as racism.
4. Spinning diversion or trivialization of issues.
5. Blatant lies or hypocrisy.
6. Overt trolling, such as extensive cross-posting.
7. Incomprehensible writing.
8. Vicious negative emotionalism, especially amusing personal attacks.

heretic and an extremely shitty person. Quibbler may I add you to
my list of losers to be taunted and mocked upon Bush's reelection?

We don't know if 9/11 could have been stopped--but we do know Dubya
failed to stop it. That's the FACT.
You want steady leadership for disastrous change?
Attack, lie, spin. Dubya's REAL trifecta.
Trolls fed to "The vile spewers of mindless blather thread".
