Kerry Administration Looks Promising for Gay Agenda
An article in today's Washington Times as well as a speech at last night's
DNC convention shows that if there is one group of Americans who will
benefit from a Kerry victory this November, it is those who are pushing the
gay agenda. Speaking to a group of homosexual delegates in Boston, Teresa
Heinz Kerry said, "If nothing else, you will have a mom in the White House."
She went on to praise them for "pushing the envelope" and promised that a
Kerry Administration would push for "cultural acceptance" of their agenda.
Mrs. Kerry was followed by Hollywood types like Rob Reiner, who said that in
light of President Bush's support for the marriage amendment, this has
become "the most important election in our lifetime." And not to be outdone,
Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), who proudly admits to being a lesbian, declared
Sen. John Kerry "the most pro-gay nominee in U.S. history." I tend to agree
with Rep. Baldwin, as it certainly seems that her label for Sen. Kerry is
accurate if for no other reason than his giving Human Rights Campaign
President Cheryl Jacques a convention speaking slot last night - an
opportunity she used to push for "marriage equality."
When asked, Kerry says he opposes same-sex "marriage." Don't believe it. All
you have to do is look at the people this presidential campaign has
surrounded itself with to see what their administration will look like. When
it comes to protecting marriage, a future with "President Kerry" looks
pretty bleak.
ACLU: If You Dare to Pray, Be Ready to Pay
Thanks to a friendly ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the ACLU
has set its sights on the City Council in Fredericksburg, Virginia, trying
to ensure that Councilman Hashmel Turner stops praying at council meetings.
The ACLU doesn't seem to mind the prayers of the other council members
because they are "sufficiently generic," but they oppose Turner's prayers
because he mentions Jesus Christ by name.
This is not only an example of how secularized our nation has become, but
also of a growing intolerance to Christianity. Today it's prayers at city
council, but if we don't rein in our courts, the ACLU will soon be editing
our pastor's sermons.
Defending Life to the End
Yesterday I had a chance to visit with former colleagues from state
legislatures around the country, including my home state of Louisiana, as
they met in Seattle for the annual meeting of the American Legislative
Exchange Council, (ALEC). ALEC was created to give state policy makers a
venue to share ideas and concerns regarding the vast number of challenges
that face the 3,000-plus elected state policy makers. FRC has been working
with ALEC to provide more information to these leaders on the social issues
that are central to the well-being of states.
We had a packed auditorium yesterday as former Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA) and
Minnesota State Sen. Michele Bachmann (R) debated the best way to stop the
runaway judiciary as it pertains to same-sex "marriage". Rep. Barr is a
staunch foe of the marriage protection amendment, while Sen. Bachmann said
it is necessary to protect the action 38 states have already taken to codify
marriage as the union between one man and one woman. State lawmakers, who
are often sandwiched between federal officials and voters, are concerned
that if state statutes and state constitutional amendments are overturned,
those voters, who have made it very clear they want marriage protected, will
blame them. The only way to preserve the steps these states have taken to
protect marriage is an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Marriage is just
one of the issues we've worked on at the state level. For more information,
