As Saddam Hussein awaits execution in Iraq, three Marines lost
their lives
in Anbar province.
At 107 deaths, December ties for third place as the bloodiest
month for U.S.
service members since the war began. Also, a British soldier was
killed in Basra,
and at least 66 Iraqis were killed or found dead today and another 40 were
wounded in various incidents.
Speculation over the imminent execution of Saddam Hussein hangs
thickly
over Iraq. The death sentence handed to him could be carried out as
early as
today, but some Iraqi officials deny that it can happen that quickly.
In other political news, two Iranian diplomats who were detained
by U.S. forces
were released and returned to Iran.
In Coalition news, three Marines were killed Thursday from
wounds sustained
during combat in Anbar province.
Also, a British soldier was killed when his patrol vehicle was
blasted near Basra.
