"Friends in Hell problem" |
I don't know if this is a new argument or what, but it came up in the
Freethoughtmedia chat.
This argument only works on those who believe in Hell and Heaven, that
Heaven is a place with no suffering, and that people able to get to
Heaven can have unsaved friends.
If someone dies and goes to Heaven, and a close friend dies and goes to
Hell, can the person in Heaven miss the person in Hell. If so, there is
suffering in Heaven. Unless, of course, God does something like drugging
the person in Heaven to make them forget about the person in Hell, or
making a non-conscious replica of the friend in Hell :)

The funny thing is those in Heaven actually ENJOY the suffering of the "bad
people" in Hell. They get off on it.

Quite so. Albeit that Hell is a particularly cruel fiction, it is a
useful one from the point of view of engendering obedience even if it
does have a tendency to spill over into real life of those who think
it a wonderful idea.

Have you ever read the Bible? It is a record of the LORD's opinion.
Really? Murdered your neighbor for picking up sticks on the sabbath yet?
It is not murder; it is execution.
It's murder, hypocrite. By the way, when are you going to be executed?

For the sake of the planet, given his express desire for the universe
to be blown up, I'd say that it would not be an execution, but a vital
mercy killing.

I said an UNJUST Universe should be blown up.
You know, the kind of Universe where people who starve to death
during infancy have nothing to look forward to but a dreamless, endless
sleep.
You know, the kind of Universe where people are born with incurable
deformities have nothing to look forward to but a dreamless, endless
sleep.
You know, the kind of Universe where people are born with incurable
handicaps have nothing to look forward to but a dreamless, endless

You know, the kind of Universe where people are born into abusive
families have nothing to look forward to but a dreamless, endless
sleep.
You know, the kind of Universe where people are born into reviled
ethnic groups have nothing to look forward to but a dreamless, endless
sleep.
I am sure you get the point.

I have just the thing.
A 1.5" x 2 foot hardened rock drill bit.
It may have a chance of penetrating his terminally thick skull.
Hand me the pneumatic drill.
Ok, how 'bout the old-matic drill?
(That joke celebrates it's 200th birthday next week.)
