Object: Frist Tees Up Broadcast-Indecency Bill
The LLL (Looney Liberal Lemmings) is living in denial if they believe the
tide towards a return to the days of decency and morality can be turned
back. This bill has the overwhelming support of the House and of the nation
as a whole.
http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6330996.html?display=Breaking+News&referral=SUPP&nid=2226
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) Tuesday signaled that he's ready
to bring to the Senate floor a fine-laden House-passed bill on broadcast
indecency, a Senate source said.
The legislation, passed by the House last January on a 389-38 vote, would
raise broadcast-indecency fines to $500,000 per offense, up from $32,500
currently.
Broadcast indecency landed on the congressional agenda after singer Janet
Jackson's breast exposure during the halftime show of the 2004 Super Bowl --
a program produced by MTV and aired on CBS that caused the Federal
Communications Commission to fine 20 CBS-owned stations $550,000 combined.
Senate Commerce Committee Republican staff learned Tuesday that Frist is
seeking to clear the House bill for a Senate vote. Because at least one
senator can postpone Senate action indefinitely, it is probable that a vote
will not occur in the near future.
Nevertheless, a Senate Republican staff source said Frist's decision "is the
first movement [on indecency] that we have seen in the Senate in a long,
long time."

Actually, liberals are hoping for a "return" to decency and morality
(although actually we have never quite managed to get there), which
starts with creating a society that respects each and every one of us
and that cares for the less fortunate.
As to a "broadcast indecency bill", why don't people simply learn to
use the V chips that come with their TVs? Or (*gasp*) get rid of the
damn contraption and actually spend time interacting with each other?

The irony of it all is that these neo-cons want the gov't to do the
work for them, and everybody. That's the exact thing they accuse the
"liberals" of doing. They want the gov't to regulate such things as
"decency" instead of, as you say, encouraging people to spend time more
and interact on their own. What ever happened to those "family values"
they allegedly support?

The V chip is not censorship, but rather labeling that you can choose

The Neo-Con strategy, of course, is to uce the religious-cultural whammy to
get poor crackers to vote against their own economic interest. The economic
reality under Neo-Con rule is that an ever larger proportion of the jobs
that exist pay too poorly to support a family. Indeed, many of them pay to
poorly for a single person to support him- or herself. Not only are more of
the available jobs of the hamburger-flipping type, but even high-reguarded
professions requiring specialized skills now pay poorly as evidenced by the
high number of police officers, firefighters, and teachers who cannot afford
to live in the jurisdictions in which they work. The result is that fewer
and fewer households can exist without two, three, or more earners working
full time.
To distract from this harsh reality, the Neo-Cons want to make it seem that
the problem is that evil liberal media is depriving parents of their free
electronic babysitter. This is the reason for the two-pronged attack on
television and the Internet. The Neo-Cons want the crackers to believe that
the problem is adults freely communicating with one another and not that the
Neo-Con economy means that in many households there won't be at least one
parent at home when the children get home from school or are out of school
or that both parents will be exhausted from the low-level, dead-end,
low-paying jobs they hold. Neo-Cons need the free electronic babysitter to
make their rich-get-richer economic schemes work. The need pablum to keep
the kids occupied while the parents are at the second and third jobs, or
recovering from them. And they need the issue to distract from the real
reason that there is a problem.
You know they got all bent out of shape when Hillary said "It takes a
village to raise a child." But that is exactly what they are saying:
it is up to the electronic village to raise your children, and so it must
all be brought down to a child's level.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) Tuesday signaled that he's ready
to bring to the Senate floor a fine-laden House-passed bill on broadcast
indecency, a Senate source said.

Some conservatives want to replace the Constitution with biblical law. Frist
signed an oath to protect the Constitution. In my eyes, he's a traitor.
- - - - - - -
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or
of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition
the Government for a redress of grievances.

You haven't got a clue what liberal really means. Just your affection
for this article alone shows me you're some uptight moralist, more
concerned with Christianity than real values. Liberalism is far more
than supporting women, children, and minorities. It's about the overall
quality of life, regardless of whether a person believes in Christianity
or not. You're not a liberal at all. You're a right-wing extremist,
with no comprehension of what liberals are really about. In fact, I can
tell you really have in your imagination is that right-wing talk-radio
pie hole caricature of what a liberal is, indicated by all the
right-wing pie holes description of liberals as anti-American,
anti-Christian, anti-blah, blah, blah nonsense. You're silly and
stupid, as a lot of liberals are indeed Christians. Your ideas are
mostly about being juxtaposed against this ridiculous caricature of
liberalism. Take the liberal bashing out of our ideas, and you're empty

back. This bill has the overwhelming support of the House and of the

nation

as a whole.

"Looney Liberal Lemmings": I notice all of your posts contain some sort
of liberal bashing. This indicates an ignorance on your part, that you
can't tell the difference between "values" and "theology," and you
mistake your partisan politics as "values."

"Looney Liberal Lemmings" is a term for those who have taken the mantel of
"liberalism" and turned it into an anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-male,
anti-caucasian, and mostly, anti-family crusade. I don't discuss theology
but I do subscribe to the morality and decency which is the basis of all
religion. By the way, I do consider myself to be a mainstream liberal, in
that I support women, children, and minorities.

Jon;
I am a liberal; I feel that it is a patriotictitle, and one that requires
courage in this day and age.
I fight and write to preserve a secular constitutional republic.
The people who truly hate America are the Neocons, who are leading a crusade to
turn it into a de facto Theocracy where only their own beliefs are accepted as
true Christianity.
Already they have introduced a "faith test," the President runs political
appointments through what is essentially a screening committee of ministers
before proceeding with Senate confimation. These ministers do not represent all
christian views, Jon, but they demand the right to define who is or is not
Christian.
The so called college Christian groups, which generally bar gays and Lesbians,
do not reflect all christian views Jon. I am Catholic and a Lesbian; I know that
the Church considers my sexual behaviour, if any, a sin. The Church still allows
me to belong.
The Christian right that is attacking our country is different; they define
people out of citizenship essentially and out of Christianity whether or not
they believe in Christ as a saviour.

You'll have to think about that one for a while. Go ahead. Take all
the time you need. Just remember: Jesus is coming soon, so be quick.

I'll take your word for it.

the tide towards a return to the days of decency and morality <snip>

That tide will turn, hopefully, after dubya and his cronies leave
office in early '09. In the meantime, this "indecency" legislation is
just another pseudo-moralistic tool to raise more gov't revenue.

For decency, great, but that is not what Frist means. He means
censorship and prudery and phony deference to obsolete religions. He
won't do a thing about teaching kids violence, consumerism, betrayal,
objectification, global responsibility, greed...

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) Tuesday signaled that he's ready
to bring to the Senate floor a fine-laden House-passed bill on broadcast
indecency, a Senate source said.

The legislation, passed by the House last January on a 389-38 vote, would
raise broadcast-indecency fines to $500,000 per offense, up from $32,500
currently.

Fox would be out of business in a day.

All that "sin in the church" is in the process of bankrupting the RCC.
The sooner, the better.
