Object: Fundy puts down women politicians and Catholics.
OK, all you gals, Jeebus says: "Get out of politics and stay home and
raise lots of little kiddies!, BTW, Catholics suck!"
This turkey is a real piece of work. Of course, I'd still like to know
why they think that they need bible study groups meeting in the State
Capitol in the first place.

Bible study leader stirs controversy
Views on Catholicism, women prompt furor

SACRAMENTO Catholicism is a false religion.
Female legislators with children at home are sinners.
Legislators should let staffers go to the gym three hours a week.
All of these are biblical interpretations from Ralph Drollinger, leader
of Capitol Ministries, an evangelical Bible study group that has sparked
controversy, protests and an invitation to leave the offices of Gov.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Catholic.
Drollinger, the 7-foot-2 former basketball player at Grossmont High
School and UCLA, insists that he didn't set out to grab headlines.
Drollinger, who grew up in La Mesa but now lives in Santa Clarita, said
he seeks to help legislators apply the Bible to their everyday lives.
In one of his weekly study guides, Drollinger wrote that the Bible
allows women to work outside the home, but leaving children to go to
Sacramento four days a week is sinful.
"Share all your gifts and talents with your kids, while God has blessed
you with offspring," he wrote. "See that as a priority for that season
of your life and then come share those gifts with our great state."
Once Drollinger's words became public, female and male legislators were
shocked and angered. Several staged a protest, donning aprons and
scarlet M's to protest his ministry and views they believe are backward
and discriminatory.
"To say that these women who are here, who are fighting for what they
believe in, who happen to have children are sinners is a terrible thing
for him to say," said Assemblyman Juan Vargas, D-San Diego.
Even some Republicans resent Drollinger's black-and-white views of the
world. In one of his weekly papers, he took on Roman Catholicism.
"It's the world's largest false religion," Drollinger said in an
interview. He argues that Catholicism allows salvation through good
works and faith, whereas his interpretation says salvation comes from
faith alone.
Those kinds of comments irritated members of the Schwarzenegger
administration.
"There were some people on the staff, including myself, a Protestant,
who took offense to that and thought it was divisive and unnecessary,"
said Schwarzenegger's communications director, Rob Stutzman.
As a result, there was a mutual decision to move Capitol Ministries'
weekly Bible study from the governor's offices to a legislative room.
Vargas, a Catholic who once studied to be a priest, also was offended by
Drollinger's comments. "It's a terrible thing. I don't think it's
right," he said.
At the same time Drollinger's group meets, Assemblyman Tim Leslie,
R-Tahoe City, heads an ecumenical Bible fellowship for legislators that
draws Protestants and Catholics, including Vargas.
Studying the Bible has been a lifelong pursuit for Drollinger. He
started attending Grace Community Church, an evangelical church, while
attending UCLA and helping to win a basketball championship under
legendary coach John Wooden.
His calling was so strong that he gave up the riches of the National
Basketball Association for four years to travel for a basketball team
affiliated with Athletes in Action, an Ohio-based evangelical Christian
ministry that uses sports as a platform to spread the Gospel.
Eventually, he played one year for the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.
Drollinger doesn't have a religious studies degree, but has studied with
pastors and worked in ministry for 30 years.
Assemblyman Ray Haynes, R-Murrieta, who attends Drollinger's sessions,
said he makes the Bible relevant to legislators, offering them guidance.
One of his weekly papers cites Bible passages in urging legislators to
treat staff members well. As part of that, he recommends allowing them
to go to the gym three hours a week on work time, citing the apostle
Paul.
Besides improving staff/legislator relations, workouts would help the
state maintain a better image, Drollinger said. "It reflects poorly on
our state if when people come to visit the Capitol, we telegraph a lack
of self-discipline by our appearance," he wrote.
Drollinger, an avid mountain climber, said his interpretation, while
based on the Bible, might have been influenced by his personal
experience. "I'm a jock, so I tend to cheat a little bit there," he
said, laughing.

So you agree with the preacher that women should stay home barefoot and
pregnant? Now we know where you are coming from.

That's exactly what some of these 'Reconstructionists' would like to do.
Put America under strict biblical law. Gays, adulterers, and disobedient
children would be stoned to death. And whatever you do, don't let them
catch you practicing witchcraft or picking up sticks on the Sabbath.
