There sure are some dumb comments in the comments section:
"wow!! this page is cool and amazing they found another new galaxy!
(again)" (M81 is like the Disneyland of glaxies, visited by millions,
as the article accompanying the photo states)
"You can not look at this and say there is no God."
"100 billion stars in each galaxy, and a 100 billion galaxies. What if
the original purpose for man was to terraform the earth, and then the
universe? There has to be a God!"
".. and the heavens declare His GLORY."
And maybe my favourite, although this guy was trying to be funny:
"I wonder if there are any hot chicks on that planet?"
Planet?!?!?! IDIOT!
I'm having one of those days where I don't see the humour in it.

Acquired mental illness is not funny.

That is a difficult statement, given that I generally cope with the
absurdity of religion by regarding it as comedy. Black comedy, but
comedy nevertheless. You're right, of course...mental illness is not
funny, acquired or innate.
What's Australia like? Are the theists pretty reserved? They generally
are here in Canada, but American Christians! Publish one photo of one
galaxy and they fall all over each other to gush at what a great god
their god is. It seems like there's a piety competition in the US,
somewhat like owning the best SUV on the block.

Galaxy revealed in high-res

That is a difficult statement, given that I generally cope with the
absurdity of religion by regarding it as comedy. Black comedy, but
comedy nevertheless. You're right, of course...mental illness is not
funny, acquired or innate.

What's Australia like? Are the theists pretty reserved? They generally

In my daily travels it rarely, (if ever), comes up in any way

Despite what you see on TV, it is almost invisible, (apart from the
utterly trivial presence of church buildings and so-on).

are here in Canada, but American Christians! Publish one photo of one
galaxy and they fall all over each other to gush at what a great god
their god is. It seems like there's a piety competition in the US,
somewhat like who owns the best SUV on the block.

I think that it comes with the territory, as it were.
Yanks seem to me to be the most personally insecure bunch of people
that I have ever met.

England passed off the lunatics to a new continent.

If that is the case, then why are Aussies *far* more personally secure
than the yanks?
Is it that the paranoid theist loonies went to 'merka, and the scum of
the criminals went to oz?

Scum of the criminals? In some cases, yes. Being transported for

imo.
