Object: Game Over for the Christian Right
"17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to
Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the
things that are God's. And they marvelled at him."
--Mark 17
Now that the Christian right has completely done away
with "Christ" in favor of "Bush," people like the Rev.
Lou Sheldon don't have to mince words about their
commitment to partisan politics, even at the expense of
their imaginary "Christian agenda."
From the CNN transcripts:
| SHELDON: Well, the way the system works the best is
| that the president nominates the judges, and the Senate
| then confirms them. And, at this time, we have a majority.
"we"
| And that system appears -- we don't know for sure -- may
| not be broken like it was under Daschle, now that we have
| better control in the U.S. Senate.
"we"
It's no longer about Heaven, it's about the U.S. Senate.

Indeed. Does duke know that evangelical Christians do not believe that
Roman Catholics are Christians, and that if their power base proves
sufficient, they'll happily dismantle the RC church in America?

Apparently he doesn't.

Well, 40+ years ago I sat in an evangelical church and listened to them
plot this very thing. Since most of what they plotted has come true -
or is threatening to - I see no reason not the think that the RCs are
in for a hard go of it, if evangelicals obtain much more power in the
U.S. than they already have.

The RCs are the largest single denomination, about a quarter of the
Christians. More than 20% of the population. And they are very
organised.

There'll be a major fight.

Perhaps they'll eliminate each other.

Hello, theocracy with a fundamentalist US Supreme
Court who will ensure church and state are joined
at the hip like clergy and altar boys.
