Game Over for the Christian Right |
"17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to
Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the
things that are God's. And they marvelled at him."
--Mark 17
Now that the Christian right has completely done away
with "Christ" in favor of "Bush," people like the Rev.
Lou Sheldon don't have to mince words about their
commitment to partisan politics, even at the expense of
their imaginary "Christian agenda."
From the CNN transcripts:
| SHELDON: Well, the way the system works the best is
| that the president nominates the judges, and the Senate
| then confirms them. And, at this time, we have a majority.
"we"
| And that system appears -- we don't know for sure -- may
| not be broken like it was under Daschle, now that we have
| better control in the U.S. Senate.
"we"
It's no longer about Heaven, it's about the U.S. Senate.

True.
But they're not even lying about it any more.
It's partisan politics, and they're not afraid of saying so.
The "Moral Majority" was invented by Jerry Farwell in
1979 to counter Jimmy Carter's credentials as a born-again
Christian & lay preacher.
But they at least pretended that it was about religion.

The next few years are going to be interesting (in terms of that
probably apocryphal "Chinese proverb" that is). They really seem to think
that Bush hanging on to his job by a one of the smallest margins of recent
history means the nation is demanding by landslide a total reorganization
along theocratic lines.
Which it isn't. No matter how much people tend to nod their heads with
such bovine stupidity when you wave words like "moral" and "Jesus" at
them, they don't want much change at all. Certainly not a radical roll
back of entire decades of social change.
So what happens when the revolution fails? Or, more accurately, sputters
and fizzles?
Wonder if this has happened before. Oh wait, it *has. We call it "Al
Queda" now...

In that case, the Republicans would be wise to simply table the 'moral
issues' - the Penis-Vagina, er, Federal Marriage Amendment, government
funded religion, er, faith-based initiatives, etc. Come to think of it, how
much have you heard about those things since the election...
Those things worked so well during the last campaign at distracting the
religious zealots from important issues, so why not save them and trot them
out again in 2008. By that time, the idiot godbots will have forgotten that
they were played with the same diversions four years prior.

Well, if you don't want me in your bedroom, just say so. I'm sure we
could come to a mutual understanding. "You stay out of my bedroom, and
I'll stay out of yours."
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" would seem to demand

playing on the radio, when you are reading, together, in your bedroom
at night.
Well, if you don't want me in your bedroom, just say so. I'm sure we
could come to a mutual understanding. "You stay out of my bedroom, and
I'll stay out of yours."
Between us, fine.
But what about those dweebs that still stay up at night, worrying that
we might, "be together"?
And want to waste tax payer dollars trying to legislate that? What
about them?
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" would seem to demand
that. (So, no binoculars, okay?)
Okay, how about a telescope?

You should be worried too, Puke. It's not that far a leap for them
to think you're not believing in 'their' god properly.
This is what separation of church and state is all about. Your
right to believe anything you want and not have it be mandated by
political power.
You're an idiot for understanding this.

He's even more of an idiot for not understanding that Rove is done with
him. You know the meetings on the agenda for the second term didn't
mention a *single religious reich issue? Not one.
The Bushies are done with the godbots. They helped him get his second term
and are of no further use. Anyway, who wants those peasants hanging
around? Shouldn't they be mopping the floors or whatever peasants do all
day?

Indeed. Does duke know that evangelical Christians do not believe that
Roman Catholics are Christians, and that if their power base proves
sufficient, they'll happily dismantle the RC church in America?
Apparently he doesn't.
Well, 40+ years ago I sat in an evangelical church and listened to them
plot this very thing. Since most of what they plotted has come true -
or is threatening to - I see no reason not the think that the RCs are
in for a hard go of it, if evangelicals obtain much more power in the
U.S. than they already have.

That's what I love about Dooky, he does not know whose bed he's jumping
into.
I know I was raised believing the RCC was run by satan itself and was a
threat both to the True Faith and the United States. Fundies still believe
this...

I sat through more than one sermone during which the preacher revealed
that the ***** of Babylon in Revelations is actually the Roman Catholic
Church.
Dook better watch his p's and q's, voting those Fundies into office, or
he might find himself in a Baptist Reeducation Center someday, cleaning
toilets because he forgot and crossed himself.

Yeah that's what Dooky doesn't get. They have no intention of stopping
with us eeebul athiests. They're just gonna keep on going to the next
infidels.
What do the "reconstructionists" say? That under their regime you'll be
"allowed" to believe whatever you want in the privacy of your own home.
Just no more public carrying on about your demonic beliefs. Like, you
know, no more churches for Catholics and Mormons. And your kids will go to
Real Christian schools of course...

The RCs are the largest single denomination, about a quarter of the
Christians. More than 20% of the population. And they are very
organised.
There'll be a major fight.
