Object: Garden of Eden: the Wrong Metaphor
Have you ever thought that the Adam and Eve metaphor, the basis of the
three cultures that define the greatest threat to world peace, may
have something to do with the violence that we currently witness in
the world? Interesting thought...
"The story of Adam and Eve is part of the Biblical mythology of
Original Sin. Christians, Muslims and Jews are all 'people of the
book' who take as holy the stories of the Hebrew era. In this story,
the existence of death and suffering are attributed to the 'sin' of
eating from the 'tree of knowledge'. Before this event, there was no
death of suffering. Adam and Eve were innocent, and obeyed a serpent
that told them to eat from the tree. Apparently, they obeyed the wrong
being, because God's punishment was to inflict death and suffering
upon them and all their ancestors, including such niceties as making
childbirth painful for women.
The story fails to present any valid morals and instead proposes that
(a) it is acceptable to punish people for the sins of others (original
sin) and (b) that death is a suitable punishment for disobedience
(ever wondered why so many oppressive governments were bedfellows with
established religions?). Also Adam and Eve's children must have slept
with their own parents. It is an immoral story that we shouldn't
suffer upon children until they are old enough to understand it as a
religious myth. God is shown to be a bad parent, uncaring. The logic
of the story is faulty. The story itself, in the same way as other
religious texts formed, is a compilation and redaction of religious
myths, and has no consistent single author."

No wonder we live under so many lies and hypocrisy. It's in the Bible!
So, in its place, I propose a true metaphor based on nature, THE
PERFECT METAPHOR...
"IT IS THE PERFECT METAPHOR OF HOW, TOGETHER, WE CAN GET THINGS DONE.
SOLIDARITY-- WITHOUT IT, WE'RE LUNCH."

"Solidarity" will fill you with pride not with shame, and will let you
enjoy a better life, here and now. Pick your metaphor...

Very nice! I'd heard about this video but never seen it before.

How much better, and even more accurate, if our ancestors had told the
story of Adam and Eve story back to front:

In the beginning, Mada and Vev lived in the Garden of Nede. Their
lives were hard and dangerous, and full of cold and hunger.
Mada and Vev found the Tree of Knowledge, and tasted of its fruit. And
they saw that they were naked; and they said, "Wherefore art we naked,
for it's frigging cold!" And they did clothe themselves, in skins of
animals and woven fibers of plants.
And Mada said, "No more shall we live in perpetual hunger, for now can
I earn our bread in the sweat of my face."
And they saw all that they could make, and behold, it was very good.

It makes so much sense that way, so our path would be one toward
civilization, not a descending path toward a cataclismic Armageddon
(read WWIII and Global Warming).
Of course, then "religious people" would stand back and do nothing
because it's "God's will"! Scary!
Not even the Devil could have devised such Machiavellic plan.

That's true. Maybe some Christians think they are returning them to
Paradise, if only they endure Hell for a while.
Or maybe it will become another theme park like Disney. I already see
the name, "Paradise Lost and Found." Kids get "Freedom Fries" with
admission. Women can eat the original "Apple Pie" from McDonalds. And
men can ride SUVs fueled with Iraqi Oil...

Eden may be in Iraq, but Nede was in Africa

Not many religious tourists would go to Africa. It got to do with
geography and politics not the color of their skin though. From the
Holy Land they can take a local flight to "Paradise Lost and Found."
And they land in another place ruled by a friendly government. Here's
how the Holy Land is preparing for the whole thing...
"There is a very large movement of Christian tourists to Israel, and
we are working to bring more tourists," Aharonovitch told The
Jerusalem Post.
