"Who we are
GlobalSecurity.org is a non-profit non-partisan policy research group.
We are dependent on contributions from individuals and foundations to
provide the necessary financial support for our operations.
GlobalSecurity.org is focused on innovative approaches to the emerging
security challenges of the new millennium. The organization seeks to
reduce reliance on nuclear weapons. It aims to shift American
conventional military forces towards new capabilities aligned with the
post-Cold War security environment. The organization is working to
improve the capabilities of the American intelligence community to
respond to new and emerging threats, reducing the need to resort to
the use of force, while enhancing the effectiveness of military forces
when needed. GlobalSecurity.org provides in-depth information and
analysis to the public, news media, policy and academic arenas, and
provides a vital public watchdog function over a broad array of global
security, and homeland security issues."

Yeah.
An article of there's is frequently referenced by the media on a subject I
know a lot about.
Almost everything in it is wrong and all of it is from outdated sources.

I figured the picture was just satire, but what about the rest of the
website? They're asking for donations as a non-profit organization,
and the site seems to have quite a bit of info that's not really
satire as far as I can tell.
The organization is working to improve the capabilities of the American
intelligence community to respond to new and emerging threats, reducing

I like the sound of the first part, but the second part leaves me
wondering what "enhancing the effectiveness of military forces"
really means.

Iraq is a uniquely attractive place to do business in the Middle East.
Iraq has bright, hardworking, and resourceful people, rich
agricultural resources, abundant natural resources including oil,
phosphate, and sulphur, a population of close to 25 million people,
and a central Middle East location. Iraq is rapidly recovering from
the effects of the war and decades of under-investment. When the
recovery is over, the potential of Iraq’s people and abundant
resources will be unleashed in the country’s newly free markets.
The Market
Iraq has close to 25 million people with pent-up demand for goods and

consumption has increased as a result of a significant increase in
wages and the opening of international trade. A surge in investment
financed by foreign donors will result in new jobs which will further
accelerate consumption and growth in 2004. The recent establishment of
a new, sound currency, transparent legal environment, and a friendly

Printed by the Swiss, you think? :)
Probably John Enschede & Zn, near Haarlem, The Netherlands. We print
it, the Swiss store it. European cooperation...

Anyone ever visited this website before?
http://www.globalsecurity.org/
From:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/org/donation.htm
"Who we are
GlobalSecurity.org is a non-profit non-partisan policy research group.
=============
What caught my eye was the following picture of some proposed
new Iraqi currency, which I thought was satire:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/iraq/images/iraq_currency.jpg
Is this for real?
It can't be for real, since on close inspection, there's a Ronald
McDonald picture on the left side of it. I got duped... Oh well...
I browsed around on the main website and found quite a few things
that don't seem like satire to me, so I dunno what to think...

If you haven't already tried it, go to
http://www.strangecosmos.com/, found at the left edge of the
Bush dinar. I haven't had time to look at much, but it looks
amusing.

You think the whole site is just one big spam trap?

I'm wondering whether the StrangeCosmos people have somehow
managed to link their satire to this otherwise serious site.
And does GSO know?

It comes up on the following page:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/iraq/currency-reform.htm
There are more satire bills on the right side.
It's the first link that came up using "iraqi dinar sales" in Google.
