God and creation. |
I understand why many believers are creationists.
If you believe in evolution it would certainly shake your faith.
Imagine taking million of years to bake a cake.

Evolution doens't shake the faith of anyone who's taken the time to really
study the bible (especially the hebrew in which Genesis was writen). with
careful study you find that the Bible doesn, in fact, leave room to include
evolution, without devaluing Creation.

Maimonides, about 800 years ago, already acknowledged that G-d's days are
not our days.
Just how many years before Darwin was that....?

Only about five centuries. On the other hand,
he didn't have scientific method. On the other
hand, Darwin didn't have radioactive decay
or the DNA model, he had to use live examples.

How desperate does someone have to be to make a ridiculously false analogy
to try to prove that a riduclously false statement is true?

The reason evolution is not accepted in some Christians is that for
the Christ mythology to be true (Jesus died for your sins so that you
don't have to burn in hell), there had to be a perfect world where man
was perfect (and in direct communication with God), then sinned and
fell from the perfect state(and loss the communion with God). Jesus
then died to restore the perfect state (for those who believe). The
literal creation story is thus essential for the Christ mythology to
be true. You can still follow Christ's moral teachings without
believing in Genesis, but if you think he died for your sins then
Genesis is the only creation story that makes sense. In the scientific
view, the universe has always existed in this state (what the
Christians consider fallen) and human nature is not caused by adam
eating an apple, but by natural selection selecting these behaviors
over millions of years. Thus, modern science is inherently against
"true" Christianity.

In alt.religion.christianity I read this message from
"PaulAbeles" <sirpaul@buckhouse.windsor.uk>:
I understand why many believers are creationists.

Imagine taking million of years to bake a cake.
Now try going from the direction of evidence. Imagine evidence
that it took a million years to bake a cake. Does that sound like
creation or evolution?

The bigger problem comes with people who refuse to see that the 2 ideas are
not incompatible.
And the biggest problem comes when the dumber ones in that crowd get nasty
about their own stupidity.
