God Does Not Take A "Holiday" On Holidays
By Doug Wrenn

Back in the early days of my childhood, just before the invention of the
wheel, we used to play a game in school called "Telephone." The teacher
would have us stand in a circle, and would then whisper a sentence into the
ear of one student, who would in turn whisper (supposedly) that same
sentence into the ear of the next student, and so the event would continue,
concluding with the last student in the circle, who would then publicly
repeat what he or she was told. It was not even remotely close to what the
teacher had said. Human nature, being what it is, is much akin to the
snowball rolled down from the mountaintop. What you start with is not what
you finally get. So it is with the much abused metaphor of "separation of
church and state." This abuse, which I believe stems partly from ignorance,
and the rest from agenda, particularly seems to raise it's ugly head each
(Brace yourself!) "Christmas" season.
I may be starting this rant a bit prematurely, as I am composing this
article on the day before Thanksgiving. That is for two reasons. First,
retailers have seemed to break all records this year in Christmas
marketing, slightly before even Halloween this year, supposedly to entice
early shopping before forecasted increases in energy costs wallop us all in
the wallet this winter, so I figure I will also sneak in an early start of
defending God and Christian holidays and traditions as well. Second, I
remember hearing Rush Limbaugh publicly read George Washington's 1789
Thanksgiving Proclamation at about this time last year on his radio show.
Just yesterday, I looked up and read the proclamation. I was significantly
touched by the words of our founding father, and I strongly encourage all
Americans to read those eloquent three paragraphs, each one of them an
accurate and much needed reminder of who we are, how we got here, and what
(and to whom) we truly need to be thankful for. Tomorrow, I intend to begin
a tradition of reading the Proclamation right after saying Grace, prior to
our Thanksgiving meal. Disclaimer: the original "George W." rightfully
speaks much about God in the proclamation, so secularists, beware!
The First Amendment to the US Constitution is probably the most twisted and
manipulated section of the entire document. No great shock there, as free
speech and freedom of religion are hot topics and I can't help but think
that the amendment's chronological designation reflected this understanding
by the framers. As Fox News's John Gibson recently pointed out, 85% of
Americans identify themselves as Christians, and 96% of Americans at least
observe, if not participate in Christmas. As I alluded before, where
ignorance stops, agenda begins. Atheists and secularists, much like many in
the homosexual community, do not seek "tolerance" as they otherwise claim.
They seek domination. The United States of America, like it or not, was
founded on Judeo-Christian principles, although not the Jewish or Christian
faiths. For any organized entity to be willingly and solely governed by a
minority of its members is ludicrous.

.. . . You can't understand a phrase such as "Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion" by syllogistic reasoning. Words
take their meaning from social as well as textual contexts, which is why "a
page of history is worth a volume of logic." New York Trust Co. v. Eisner,
