Object: "God gene" or "delusion gene"?
It looks like some people are now out there floating the idea that some
people are more "spiritual" due to their genetics.
This article leans somewhat in favor of it:
"Is the Capacity for Spirituality Determined by Brain Chemistry?
Geneticist's Book 'The God Gene' Is Disputed by Scientists, Embraced by
Some Religious Leaders"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A46793-2004Nov12.html
and this one leans somewhat away:
"Religious fanatic? Blame it on 'god gene'"
http://www.newkerala.com/news-daily/news/features.php?action=fullnews&id=42662
The theory still looks pretty tenuous at this point, however if people
who didn't believe in the religion in power were killed throughout most
of man's history I could see how evolution might select for it.
Still, if the gene(s) do exist for this I'm glad that I'm either free
from this genetic predisposition or have managed to overcome it.
It's a strong argument for genetic therapy though. ;-)
P.S. Pardon me if I'm duplicating a thread in alt.atheism, I normally
only hang out in the misspelled group, hence the crosspost.

The difference between intelligence and stupidity is that intelligence
has its limits.

Does the subject line imply that the claim the gene may exist is delusional,
or the gene itself causes delusions, or both?

It's intentionally left open for interpretation.
