Object: God-given rights
I am very troubled by the insistence of some posters to this group that
human rights come from God. To those who claim that human rights are
God-given, can you please answer the following questions:
1. Where in the Bible are human rights explicitly mentioned and what rights
are they?
2. Is there a religious document, perhaps the equivalent of 10 Commandments,
that lists human rights ( a precursor of the Bill of Rights perhaps)?
3. What Church or religion has human rights among its main doctrine? (It
would be good if you could provide a bibliography here)
4. What Church or religion stood up for human rights and when? I don't want
examples of individual members defending human rights, but of the entire
Church or religion taking a documented stand. (Please note that unless these
examples are more then 50 years old, I might be forced to conclude that when
it comes to the Rights of Man, God is only a recent convert.....)

The Torah books describe a society where human rights had no place.
Ancient Israel resembles a Taliban type of nation.

You know, it might be an interesting experiment to gather together
some volunteers and set them up to live in a mock society, say for a
year, where the rules of the society did not deviate, in any way, from
Biblical law. Something like a 1900 House for the Biblical set. [1]
Unfortunately, I suspect that the ethical barriers to such a project
would be insurmountable.

[1] 1900 House was a BBC project where a typical family had to live in
a house renovated to the standards of the year 1900, complete with
clothing and chores. It seemed to have been a rather unpleasant
experience for the family.

Could be called Exodus Survivor.

Probably. But it could be a good movie sending up reality TV like
Series 7.

The only 'right' the Bible indicates is the right to unquestioningly
obey and you might live through the day.
