God has not forgotten us: Pell
December 24, 2004
PUBLIC debate may have centred on decorations and carols, but the most
important Christmas message was that God has not forgotten us, the Catholic
Archbishop of Sydney, George Pell, said today.
In his annual Christmas message, Cardinal Pell said decorations, carols and
presents helped the "annual miracle of Christmas" work.
They helped give "soldiers far from home, people sleeping rough, broken
families, lonely suburbanites, religious cynics, hope at the year's end that
life has some point and that things may get better".
"But more than all of this, Christmas touches people because the message is
that we are not forgotten by God," Cardinal Pell said.
"The Son of God came to earth and lived as closely with us as we do with our
own loved ones."
Cardinal Pell prayed that people would find peace in the knowledge that God
remembered them.
"Wherever you are and however difficult your life and your year, God is not
a hair's breadth away from you," he said.
