He should've made us directly solar powered instead of indirectly

Yes, but then "roots" would be a whole 'nother concept.
No need for roots. We could just drink the required nutrients mixed
in with water like plant fertilizer. :)
Our hair and skin could be photosynthetic, and instead of having to
work for food, we'd just lay around in the sun. Of course the god
critter would have to make sure the sun shines enough each day
to keep us alive, but since it created the entire universe, that
shouldn't be a problem...
