Excellent statement.
All religions are cults of control. Instead of seeking knowledge and
enlightenment, lazy and stupid people jump on the wagon for a ride to escape
the fear of death and the unknown. Instead of learning the real truth they
are led to an unreachable pie in the sky and told never to question the
con-masters.

To be fair, not all christians (and muslims for that matter) adhere to a
literalist interpretation (what a contradiction in terms *g* ) of their
scripture. And those (I know) who accept their respective scriptures as a
source of allegorical, but not literal truth tend to be very decent,
rational people.
(At least in everyday life - they may believe in some, well, strange things,
but they behave normally and don't try to force their beliefs on others)

You need to read Sam Harris's _The End of Faith_. Harris makes a
pretty compelling argument about how the "decent, rational" people of
faith actually enable the frothing, wild-eyed literalist zealots.

but they behave normally and don't try to force their beliefs on others)
Harris may convince you otherwise. Besides, the book is a good read,
if scary in parts.
