It apparently means "whom." Why there's a "q" up front remains a
mystery...

Interesting how "onlie" is just an "e" away from being "one lie",
don't you think? A big lie about only one god who created everything
and cares about your sex life!

I think it is a holdover from the Latin, but I may be wrong.

Ah. Does it sound even close to whom? Is the q silent or what?
It's at times like this I wish I could plug a word into some internet
query that would spit out a sound file in the native language...
Something like:

or something like that... :)

No, just that it's a Law which is still extant and in force in
Scotland, and has never been repealed. Your postings here could
theoretically land you in court in Scotland should you ever wish to
pay a visit there. I don't know what the punishment would be upon
being found guilty, but some of the medieval ones sound quite
exciting.
The Law doesn't prove whether God exists or not: it just states that
the people of Scotland in 1560 decided that a "confession of their
faith" would be a nice thing to have on the Statute books.
Presumably anyone in Scotland not subscribing to this "faith" might
find themselves charged.
Perhaps you should be campaigning to have this Law repealed.
