The two sentences seem to contradict each other. And they both
contradict the fact that, if their god exists, he's the reason two
people were reported missing.

Yep. I also have an image in my head (no evidence it's true, but it
amuses me) that the "entertainer" is some sort of flamboyant cross-
dresser from a caberet revue.
