GODLESS AMERICANS GROUP ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENT OF KERRY-EDWARDS
A newly formed group encouraging political action on behalf of "Godless
Americans" has announced that it is endorsing Sen. John Kerry for
president and Sen. John Edwards for vice president in the 2004 national
elections.
Ellen Johnson, Executive Director of the Godless Americans Political
Action Committee, said that the Kerry-Edwards slate was "the clear
choice over President Bush, who has spent the last four years eroding
the separation of church and state, 'packing the courts' with judges who
ignore the First Amendment, and imposing a de-facto Religion Tax through
the federal faith-based initiative."
Johnson said that the PAC grew out of the November, 2002 Godless
Americans March on Washington that brought thousands of nonbelievers to
the nation's capitol for a rally on the mall.
"There are nearly 30 million Americans who describe themselves as having
no religion," said Johnson. "This includes Atheists, Freethinkers,
Secular Humanists, Rationalists and others who have little or no voice
in our political process, and who are often ignored by the major
political parties."
"We intend to change that."
Johnson pointed out that political hopefuls "go out of their way to
court voters in churches, mosques and temples" and woo "religious
blocks" of voters.
"It's time for them to wake up and realize that there is another 'block'
they have to start paying attention to, and this is secularists who
believe in the separation of church and state, and are determined to
stand up for their civil rights."
Johnson said that the Kerry-Edwards slate was "the best alternative to
four more years of George Bush and Pat Robertson running the country."
The GODLESS AMERICANS POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (GAMPAC) is an
educational and political initiative focusing on issues of concern
to Atheists. The GAMPAC supports and endorses Atheist candidates
for public office.

Sorry Ellen, but I have more important things to worry about then
whether,"under gawd" is in the pledge. I'm not going to see our economy
flushed, taxes skyrocketed and terrorists left alone to kill us because we
don't like *their* gawd just to have the emotional satisfaction of seeing
the fundy out of office. Not that if he is replaced by Jean Kerry we'ld see
any improvement on the issues that you singlemindedly promote.

That's like choosing the Italian Fascists over the Nazis. Sure, they
wear different clothes and have slightly different policies, but neither
are going to bother with the likes of us.
Haven't you noticed that Kerry hasn't made a single promise regarding
dismantling Bush's "Office of Faith-Based Initiatives"? Some friend
he'll be. Better than Bush? I suppose, but not all that much, I'll bet.

I don't think should open that can of worms at this time. One thing is
certain though, Bush won't dismantle it.

I went to Kerry's site and found nothing about church and state
issues. Edwards gave a speech in a church again today. I'm a little
worried about that myself, but I'm certain that they would still be
better than what we have now.

I think we can safely rely on there being no stem-winding speech at the Demo
convention on the perils of failing to guard the Wall of Separation. We may have to live
with the fact that replacing shrub with an h. sapiens sapiens will leave us still with a less
than perfect Maximum Leader. I can warrant that we won't see Kerry trying to pack the
federal courts with pro-life (or pro-choice) Catholics determined to put the screws to
everyone else's civil liberties. And in case that doesn't go far enough to distinguish the
Separation merits of the two likely outcomes of the prezidinkial election, start rehearsing
the expression "Chief Justice Scalia".
I have to go take an emergency shower.
